[Beginner] iTunes migration?

I recently set up a home server so I can get all of my music, movies and photos off of my iMac which is running out of disk space. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to go about it? Is there an "easy" way to migrate the data? My first thought was to just copy all of the data over, trash my existing iTunes and rebuild iTunes based on the data being on the server as opposed to the local drive. When I try to export my library, it just seems to create an xml file which isn't what I want (I don't think).

In case it matters, I have about 80G of music and another 80G of photos and probably 200G+ of movies.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
