Re: [MoP] Blizzard Cinematic Opening While the video was an enjoyable watch, I agree with one of the previous posters in saying that it did little to entice me to play the Xpac. Quite the opposite, actually.
Maybe its just me, but I feel they are.... stretching.... reaching.... and failing. While I see the business sense of expanding in a way that will attract a stronger asian response (Really? Fighting Monk Pandas?) it does nothing whatsoever to bring me back to the fold.
Will I play it? Probably. At this point, I have literal years of my life dedicated to the game- and I still greatly enjoy certain aspects of it- but I have none of the heartfelt anticipation I previously had for other Xpacs. My overall opinion on it is: Eh. |

Cata had Deathwing erupting up and causing the breaking, Lich had the intro story for him, etc. What does this one do?
"Why do we fight?" dur, why are you HERE? What's the reasoning? What's the point? L2mmo-champion.com back story was all posted there months ago. Its amazing to me how many people dont do any additional research/reading into this hobby. not just pointed at you capt.
The vid was to introduce you to how we got to pandaria, the new race, and who they are as a "people." The back story is explained in quests in the xpac. The bad guy is still the same bad guy it has always been, the Old Gods and thier minions.
MMO-C explained who the Sha are, how they work, some of the insect-oids and thier role. Some new mechanics of boss fight revolve around these relationships.

just walk away cleanly now... Horseshit. I dont feel that because this game has grown stale it falls to me as being "unhappy in a relationship" and I need something to justify my feelings so I can feel guiltless in walking away. Take your example and look at it like this, girl meets guy and is happy, then guy not only does not behave as he used too but has enabled the relationship in a way that invites abuse and dumbing down of features that used to make it happy. So the relationship is now a amalgam of hints of what was special and a bulk of what makes things bad.
Moving from the metaphorical, the game was at first something new and exciting and it had a strong positive aspect. The game moved forward and some newness and excitment dimmed but the social aspect was still there, then by the time WotLK and Cata arrived the "specialness" was gone (welfare epics to keep people going), and abusive, community destroying constructs appeared (faction/race/name change, LFD, LFR, guild perks...) now the game is a shadow of what made it special. Who is at fault in one feeling they have grown tired with the game?
I admit that some of the blame invariably has to be shouldered by the one that feels weary (nostaglia shading views of the game) but honestly Blizzard has gone a long way in destoying the community of WoW and the game itself. Pandas and Pet Battles do not make up for the assholes that populate the community and the features that support them. |

just walk away cleanly now... Making broad generalizations about being the unhappy female pretending things will get better? Seriously? LOL. Personally, I think that those who feel like you are WOW sheep that would have been happy with ANYTHING bliz put out. (How'd that generalization feel?)
Its just a game. One I've played relatively happily for years. And in my honest opinion- this is the least exciting Xpac yet. Simple as that. The anticipation on previous Xpacs was nearly palpable- and the advertising alone made it less necessary to "research" the storyline. (Really? I need to research the back story on something they charge me money for?)
Never had to do that before. Know why?
WOW is a bit of sinking ship at the moment. No- it wont sink all the way- but its awfully low in the water. The projected sales number for this Xpac are lower than any have been and the number of new US/EU based subscribers is steadily declining. Thus the limited (very costly) advertising- no JackieChan playing a Panda commercial. Know whats not declining as much? Asia. Thus the Panda Xpac.
And while I can understand the business acumen behind such a decision- I SIMPLY DONT LIKE IT. It reeks of Blizzard Panda-ing (awesome pun intended) to its asian markets, which I find less appealing. Can you say Kung-Fu Panda? Blizz can and does. And while it was original 5 years ago- I find it less so now. I'm sorry if that offends you. (I'm not, really)
Will I still play? Hell yeah. PvP alone would keep me in. But the ongoing storyline seems stale and more than just a bit of a stretch. I find it a bit lame that an opinion other than your own is immediately characterized as a disenfranchised player whining for the sake of the whine. Not so.
God forbid anyone have a valid opinion that differs from your own. |

God forbid anyone have a valid opinion that differs from your own. If this is really about having the freedom to express viewpoints and opinions, then why attack mine so? I don't understand why you two took offense at the analogy of a relationship that simply has run its course. Neither of your opinions are unique (lots of people find the Panda thing too much to accept), they are just different from the overall tone of this thread, which is one of excitement... If it was because you think I was just calling you whiny girls, then you didn't look deeply enough into the analogy (or you have shallow understanding of relationships). Also, I was pointing out not just your posts, but of every panda-hating post I see all over the Official Forums. I'm not defending just my own opinion; rather, I'm asking those who still can't get on board with the new expansion to must move along. Nothing to see here but Pandas, really. You've said your piece, we can no longer expect to see anything praiseworthy or excited about the expansion from you and the many who share your views... so my audience will remain those who are excited about MoP (regardless of what you choose to call them).

just walk away cleanly now... What I took from THIS was - another way of wording the same thing; the willingness to continue this "eh" feeling, just because there were years invested.
No right or wrong, again, just opinions from involved parties on the anticipation (or lack of) the expansion.
At some point in time a decision should be made whether or not to "just walk away" - why keep investing time/money in something that is just "eh".

So in your view if I take offense and a comparision of myself to a woman in a relationship that is looking for an excuse to justify my feeling so I can walk away guilt free then I dont understand relationships? I think that rather smacks of arrogance too think I dont understand relationships if I dont agree with your line of reasoning. | reply to Immer Not going to go through the quote shit again, but suffice it to say, your anaology left a lot to be desired in the way of defining those as unhappy with the game as an unhappy girl in a relationship, and your response that those that didnt understand your anology were insufficient in their skill of understanding relationships didnt help or endear your argument.
The fact remains that people, including myself, are not thrilled with the new expac. I have "spoken my piece" so to speak as to why I feel that way. But, in the end it is my opinion alone that I set forth. I dont look for justification from others it is simply the way I feel. Asking me or another to go away because we dont agree with your assessment, or anyone else's for that matter, is offensive. The whole point of a discussion thread is a discussion.
