rcroning posted : Thrift stores are the best places for really good camera deals. I once got an Olympus OM-1 and 50mm lens for $3. I checked with them several times about the price and they said they wouldn't go any lower so I paid them $5 instead.

caffeinator posted : Thanks! :)

I know it is just an old not-bad camera to most folks, they'd probably chuck it when they got a DSLR...but to me it's a good thing.

It's got a good optical zoom, very nice IS, many manual options and can take lens extensions. I've seen photos of what it can do, and used right, it's about as good as anything made today in the same market.

If I could afford film processing, I'd still use my 1966 leather-jacketed 35mm Mamiya-Sekor 500TL SLR with the Nikkor lenses and the big dent in the top, but I can't. So, I march on the best I can.

Someday, I'll get to use a DSLR and those old friends made of Japanese glass again. :)
--

My 9/11 Tribute..online since 9/14/01
Need an Avatar?
caffeinator posted : I love thrift shopping...look at what I found today....

[att=1]

[att=2]

It's hardly a new camera, but it beats the pants off my aging Samsung S630 and can take SDHD cards. Got the entire kit including the OEM 16M SD card, manuals, software and all cables for $40. Even had a 1GB SD card and working batteries still in it. :D

It's a bit scuffed as per normal wear, but works perfectly with just one minor scratch on the LCD. Lens is like new AFAIK, motors are nearly silent, and all the buttons work. =)

Review
»www.steves-digicams.com/camera-r···iew.html

Price is widely varied, but still seems I got a good deal. Camera appears to hold its value pretty well.
»www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-A···00V1VG2E

It may not be new, but it is to me...a huge jump in quality and options from my old camera. And, it can handle the weird yellow/orange light in my apt. as well as low lighting and ISO noise issues which the Samsung chokes on.

Yay!
[att=3,l]

--

My 9/11 Tribute..online since 9/14/01
Need an Avatar?
