Re: [Cataclysm] Tired of the attitude I hear you Claw. I think the real issue, and I know this has been said before, but convenience is killing/has killed the community of WoW and it will never again be what it was. I admit the things they have implemented in this game over the the years through these many expansions has made it convenient for casuals ,which now make up the majority of the player base, but it has slowly killed the game community.
Whe I first started on release, you played with friends, then APPLIED to a guild (now you get a guild invite from a addon as soon as you log on with no guild tag)and you started a friend list based on encounters you had with people on your server. You knew who were asshats and knew who could be counted on.
Then came name/faction change/server transfers, then ability to have Horde and Alliance toons on same server on same account, LFD, LFR/guild perks (horrible fucking idea btw)...and now you get what we have now.
Folks level to cap in quick order (even without BOAs), guild finds you, most guilds pay for your repairs, LFD for gear/points anonomously (ninja what you want, lie, cheat, be a douchebag), be bad at your class and no one gives two shits, LFR or farm BGs for epics and now your iLevel384 in a guild of 443 other anonomous assholes and you dont have to have a social commitment to any decent behavior.
I know this is all worst case scenario and most of us on this forum have a decent guild and friends we play with, but judging by the majority of folks I run across the above seems to apply to them. |

| You really hit the nail on the head with this, Skittles. I started playing in Vanilla, and that was a great experience. I remember people being very patient, friendly, and nice to me - when I was a complete noob. There is always a few a$$holes, sure, I'm not wearing rose colored glasses. It's just gotten much, much, worse. I think I would love to play again if I could find somewhere to go with a decent group to play with. I used to have that in Wrath, but they've all quit now. |

| I didn't mean to make this thread a looking for guild - butl, I'd be willing to x-fer (I'm on Proudmoore atm) if I'm going to play MoP, if any of you guys have any ideas/recommendations of where to go. I've played since Vanilla. I'm not a hard core by any means. I can play just about anything competently, I'm a good OT, solid dps, and actually quite a good healer. I'd be willing to play anything on the list below. Here's a rough idea of my experience:
Warrior - raided prot vanilla through end of BC (ZG, Kara, Gruul's) Druid - resto BC (Kara - BT/SSC/TK), feral in Wrath (cleared all), Cata dabbled in everything, mostly bear. Hunter - Cata baby, cleared T11, took a break. Mostly LFR gear now. Resto/Enh Shaman - Wrath cleared all, Cata cleared T11/T13. DK - Naxx/Ulduar/ToC/ICC, some T11 in Cata. Paladin - wrath baby char, cleared all content as prot. Cata did part of T11 as holy. Rogue - dinged one, no raid xp. Priest - Another wrath baby, cleared all Wrath content, Cata just dabbled. Mage - Cleared most of Wrath content, didn't bother with much for Cata.
EDIT: I live in EST time zone, and don't like 4 day raid schedules. The most fun I ever had was raiding with a really good guild one day a week in Wrath. We cleared a lot of content, everyone showed up, shut up, and put up for 4 hours. Good times. |

»DSLR guild (Silvermoon) is now level 23
»DSLR guild (Aftershock)
Aftershock raided all through WotLK, but most of us took time off in Cata and only came back 4 months ago. I believe we will be more involved in MOP and probably get back into raiding. A bunch of DSLR peeps are also going to be playing in GW2 (we're currently voting on a server and guild name in the PC Games forum).
If you like the social commitment, then playing with people you know here is a great way to do it. -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

Players used to be called out on a server for playing / being a douche until they changed their name or server transferred. Once you introduce anonymity, a person's true values show and unfortunately it seems more value self than group. (Though there are select few, Immer's guild being a golden egg among a sea of crap).
When you compare this game to eating out for dinner, it is easy to provide an analogy the the new quality of the game we consume. Helpful isn't the appetizer, fun isn't the entree and community is no longer the sweet reward in this once gourmet meal of an mmo. Instead it is a all-you-can-eat buffet where you need to watch out for the hungry hippo behind you because they will shove your ass out of the way to get that last bite of gear. You all paid the same amount to get into this diner and damn it, why wait in line? This place is located on a freeway in the middle of no-where in which actions don't cause repercussions. Orderly lines and politeness have all but dwindled away to the pushing and shoving for first. Unfortunately, if you want a chance to get anything, you must act like everyone else or wait until there is nothing but an empty trough laughing back at you as those that pushed the most walk away throwing away more than what they could have needed.
I sigh irl every time I think about coming back, and if it weren't for the few decent folks (and annual pass), this game would have been uninstalled a while ago. -- I am stating my opinion. Obviously you don't like it. Honestly, I don't care. |
