I had no issues before the ML upgrade.

Count ZeroObama-Biden 2012Premium join:2007-01-18 Winston Salem, NC | and you've rebooted I'm sure... well something is seriously f00bar here... not sure b/c mine installed on all 4 of my computers w/o any errors or anything. Somehow your installation must have messed up. There must be a way to manually uinstall Java -- does it install to /bin? should be able to just delete its directory and re-install it. |

EdrickI aspire to tell the story of a lifetimePremium join:2004-09-11 Woburn, MA | reply to Edrick Defiantly have rebooted, a few times. I've had this issue since the original install but could never be bothered to fix it and just used the older version I suppose via safari. This was an upgrade from 10.7.
There is nothing under /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/ |

Use Oracle's Java pref pane the installer adds to System Preferences (control panel). You should see it there. Apple's Java panel won't show it even if it is properly installed (I know mine doesn't).
You can also run Java ID tests to double check which build of Java is being run.

EdrickI aspire to tell the story of a lifetimePremium join:2004-09-11 Woburn, MA | reply to Edrick The Apple version tells me a newer version of that package is already installed. I suppose i'll have to do a clean install eventually or say good riddance to Java. |

EdrickI aspire to tell the story of a lifetimePremium join:2004-09-11 Woburn, MA | reply to Edrick So I just went to download Java and apparently Chrome isn't 64bit, thus doesn't support Java anymore?
Chrome does not support Java 7. Java 7 runs only on 64-bit browsers and Chrome is a 32-bit browser.
If you download Java 7, you will not be able to run Java content in Chrome and will need to use a 64-bit browser (such as Safari or Firefox) to run Java content within a browser. Additionally, installing Java 7 will disable the ability to use Apple Java 6 on your system.
It would also seem in my attempt to remove Java by only removing the Java specific files based on the article I linked, I've hosed the system from allowing me to use spotlight, mount disk images, or open iTunes. Although I suppose it could also be the 10.8.1 update I installed a few short hours ago as I haven't done any of those three items since.
Strange. |

| reply to Edrick It sounds like you may need to do a clean install. That solved a lot of the problems I had with Lion.
I haven't updated (which will be a clean install) to ML yet. I'm waiting for a good, stable version (maybe 10.8.2?), and waiting for the drivers for my Fast Track Ultra to be updated to 10.8. -- Obama in 2012 - There's No Tea Left In The Bag. |
