mab631Premium join:2003-08-22 Mastic Beach, NY | Month old XPS 8500 will not boot? Hey guys i bought an XPS 8500 about a month ago and it will not boot today. The power supply has a green light on the back it so that seams good, there is an amber light on the mother board. When i push the power button is turn on for 2 sec then turns off, then back on for 2 sec, so i don't see the bois or anything. What could this be?? |

mab631Premium join:2003-08-22 Mastic Beach, NY | sadly i have just done that, and because i work so many hour and have a long commute i can't be home for a repair person to show at my house, so i asked them because this is such a new pc can they replace the computer and i will mail back this defective one and they refuse to work with me. They tell me i should take off from work. |

Not sure why the PSU could give positive signals in the energized state and yet not boot. My guess is that one is a much lower power state and then everything is fine. But when you draw some serious current, the PSU craps out.
If you have a spare PSU or one you can swap out, might be worth a try rather than dealing with Deal service. |

If my brand new expensive computer broke and I needed to be at my house for a technician to show up, you better believe I would leave work for a couple hours to make it happen. |

mab631Premium join:2003-08-22 Mastic Beach, NY | reply to bbear2 well whats weird is the power supply fan does the same thing, power on and power off. I just can't believe that Dell won't just replace the pc and sell this one as a refurbished unit. Like i said its brand new, if it was a year old i wouldn't ask for a replacement and i would buy a new computer (just not a Dell). But to be hung up on by customer service and that it is my fault that I am a hard working person who has a job and goes to school at night. |

mab631Premium join:2003-08-22 Mastic Beach, NY | Ghastlyone is not that easy for the private company I work for. If i could i would but I can't. I also live about 2 hours in rush our traffic away from my job so i would need to take pretty much the whole day off. Which my boss will not approve. |

Unplug the PC, throw it in your car and have the tech come to your job? |

bbear2Premium join:2003-10-06 94045 kudos:3 | reply to mab631 Some people forget that not everyone has an open office with liberal visitation policies. Think about nurses, ER staff, doctors in hospitals, or even a call center operator , etc. And Dell thinks they are making things convenient for their customers?
Any chance you can completely return it where you bought it and start over? |

mab631Premium join:2003-08-22 Mastic Beach, NY | I bought it from Dell directly thinking that would make my life easier in life. I don't have any of the original boxes and to be honest i feel i shouldn't have to pay for shipping a 30lb computer with no fault on my end. Their warranty clearly states "In some cases, where we can determine over the telephone that a replacement Computer Device will be necessary, we may in our discretion, ship you a replacement Computer Device immediately. However, if you fail to return the damaged Computer Device to us, you agree that you are responsible for the retail price of the replacement Computer Device." But will not help me out, I have no problem doing what this policy states which is i get a new desktop(unit) and i ship the old unusable unit back. Thank you bbear2 for understanding about my job. |

Don't know what else to tell you dude. If you can't make the effort to meet a Dell technician at your house (they're fulfilling their end of the warranty) then that's on you. Not Dell. |

HIPAA would be my first thought, possibly simple information security principles & policies that all companies should be adopting.
said by mab631: I don't have any of the original boxes Dell will ship you the necessary boxes & cover the shipping if they authorize a depot repair. It really shouldn't be an issue to do a depot (on their premise) if there are no other options to get it repaired. |

mab631Premium join:2003-08-22 Mastic Beach, NY | psafux they don't even want to do that. But i did want to bring this to your guys attention that what i did was post is in the warranty, so why is Dell not honoring that? Also could this be more than just a motherboard issue? |

It isn't their fault you can't be available. But they will let you set up a depot repair, you just need to insist on such. |

Talk to a supervisor. It will happen. My money is on power supply or motherboard - pretty common POF (point of failure) in those particular systems.
