Those Motorola boxes work fine in Cisco area or they will get old Scientific Atlanta boxes? Cisco/SciAtl and Motorola boxes aren't usually compatible, especially older boxes running older guides.
So if you're in a Cisco/SciAtl area, you should get Cisco/SciAtl boxes. Motorola boxes in Motorola areas.
It's VERY rare that a system has both authorization/encryption systems coexisting with each other. -- If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes. |

 | Scientific Atlanta areas will likely give out the Explorer 2100/2200/3100/3200 series which many companies still use as the basic box standard. These boxes are actually not that bad. The Motorola areas are giving out those huge DCT boxes which are very slow but functional. |

Motorola boxes in Motorola areas. It's VERY rare that a system has both authorization/encryption systems coexisting with each other. TWC has most of the dual encryption systems as they are the ones that pioneered the SA overlay onto motorola systems in Texas in Kerrville, Beaumont, Columbus/Eagle Lake, Cuero/Yokum/Gonzalez, Rio Grande Valley Texas, Laredo, Clarksburg WV, Terre Haute IN, Dothan AL
A lot of these areas above have been upgraded to 860MHz systems with SA gainmaker gear or CCOR/Antec gear.
These systems started out with DCT2000s and got probably to the DCT5100 series motorola boxes before TWC launched SA4250HD boxes and SA8000 DVRs and SA8000HD DVRs.
Some of these areas to this day still have the overlay system running iGuide on the motorola boxes and SARA or Navigator on the Cisco boxes. And yes there are two conditional access systems on the systems still running both brands of boxes.
I believe that the way it is set up on the overlay is that one conditional access will have a channel of such as:
100-1 for Cisco boxes 100-33775 for Motorola boxes
and that is for the same channel. |

The Motorola areas are giving out those huge DCT boxes which are very slow but functional. eventually TWC will be giving out DTA's and HD DTA's in all areas right now they are just now expanding DTA availability in the New England/Northeast TWC areas as of next month as they have concluded the test in August and are ready to rollout to more areas for a wider observation.
One area that has already ditched analogs for the most part in california is Barstow which is a 550MHz system that got a ton of channels added when TWC dropped the expanded basic analog tier and made the channels digital only. |

 | I'm in the LA market and was able to get this deal even though I have a DVR as well. You need to call TWC, and there is a prompt for inquiries regarding the letter. The stores are unable to add this deal directly. As stated the standard box given out is the DCT2224, which is extremely basic and somewhat slow. If you're lucky, you might get a DCT2524 but most refurbs left in stores are the 2224. If you want a free box add one while you can. |

DrDrewSo that others may surf. join:2009-01-28 SoCal kudos:8 | They were available everywhere from about 2003 to 2008 or so. Then makers just quit making them for the most part.
I probably did about a dozen installs on them in that time, most people weren't happy with them since they didn't have any guide to tell them what's on. They had a high fail on install rate too do to many early manufacturer problems. -- If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes. |

 | reply to Vertigo According to the store, the former Comcast areas were not supposed to be included in the free box promotion because they had expanded basic channels removed from analog under Comcast. However, the letters went out to all SoCal customers so the digital transition dept at TWC can add the free box promo over the phone for anyone who received a letter. |

WGN America CSPAN KWHY (Mundo Fox)
so the letters were warranted for all areas. |

 | reply to Vertigo I think the most important part of dragonman300's post is that the letter sent to subscribers say that Time Warner is deploying HD DTA's.
Is that true or not?
I saw this same question asked on AVS Forum. The answer given (likely just a guess) was no. Time Warner instead is just giving those people a free box with no rental fees for 1 year. |
