Handling four TV shows at once for an hour?

Hi all!

OK, I have a dilemma on my new Motorola DCX3400 DVR with TWC starting in October 2012 and was wondering if there is a way to fix this for cheap or work around it. I have many TV shows on Sunday nights starting in October 2012 at 9:00 PM PDT for an hour (really wished MythBusters went back to its Wednesdays):

9/30 9:00 PM - 9:30 PM = Family Guy on FOX
9/30 9:30 PM - 10:00 PM = American Dad on FOX
10/7 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM = MythBusters on Discovery
10/14 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM = The Walking Dead on AMC

I have three stations with four shows I need to record and watch. According to my DVR, it has two HD tuners so it can record/show two at once. Do I need another DVR for the third one? Does TWC even have a DVR that has more than two tuners? I don't really want to wait eight long days and pay, to watch right away, on FOX.com and Hulu.com (Plus) for FOX's shows.

Thank you in advance.

If you don't mind using a computer, you could get a ClearQAM tuner for it to record the shows on Fox. Then use the DVR for Discovery and AMC.

Not sure about Mythbusters or The Walking Dead, but new episodes of both Family Guy and American Dad are available On Demand the next day. (Primetime On Demand, under Fox)

Switch to DirecTV, they have a 6 tuner DVR. Problem solved.

10/7 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM = MythBusters on Discovery
10/14 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM = The Walking Dead on AMC

Both of these re-air later in the night. If you don't trust the boxes ability to handle conflict management you can set one or both to record the later airing.

I am trying to avoid that.

I would if it had new episodes.

Hob is right. That's where you need to go to schedule the recordings anyway. Most cable networks rebroadcast popular shows in the middle of the night, that's when I schedule my recordings, avoids conflicts in the evening when I'm viewing. You can also use the search function.

The Walking dead airs at 11 and 12:30 I believe. Mythbusters should be between 12am-2am.

I've had to do some creative scheduling in the past for numerous shows to learn that most cable channels re-air there shows later while networks are a more one and done type.

Thanks. OK, I think I will record and watch FOX shows first since most people watch them and will talk about them. Then, I will record non-broadcast ones after midnight. If my broadcast ones fail to record or whatever, then I will catch them on VoD. How long do the ones on VoD last anyways?

I wish TWC would catch up to the rest of the nation and get some sort of 4 or 5 tuner DVR. I got one of those Tivo Elite/XL4's and after 3 different ones finally figured out it wouldnt work with TWC. The tuning adapter/cable card setup was such a nightmare. Now I just have 2 stacked on top of each other. I would be willing to pay more if TWC would get some sort of DVR with more tuners.

Yeah, I was surprised TWC DVRs doesn't have 3+ tuners.

Theres the new Pace XG1 6 tuner coming out this year, as well as the Whiteman Delta 6 tuner dvr, and the Ceton Q 6 tuner dvr coming out sometime this year as well. I wish TWC would take advantage of some of this new technology coming out and make its customers happy. God knows I would be.

I don’t watch either Mythbusters or The Walking Dead, but as long as they do indeed have an encore presentation of the new episode in the middle of the night you’re all set. Just set all four of those shows to record, make sure the Animation Domination shows are given a higher priority over the other two. Family Guy and American Dad will record at their normal time. As long as you have no other recording conflicts, the encore presentations of the other two shows will indeed record. Yep, Navigator is really that slick!

That’s exactly what I did last season. Wednesday’s at 10PM I had CSI, American Horror Story and South Park. I gave South Park a lower priority so CSI ad AHS world record at their normal times and South Park would be recorded during the midnight encore. This also works in the event of a power outage. Don’t get many power outages here but, one Sunday night the power went off and came back on just before midnight The middle of the night re-airing of the new Californication episode was recorded without a hitch.

Seriously, Time Warner with their powerful Navigator platform couldn’t make this stuff any easier. Set it an forget it!

Another option.. use a splitter and feed a cable line directly to the TV if you can. Then you can let the tuners record 2 shows and watch one on the QAMs

Thanks, but Motorola DCX3400 DVR uses iGuide. However, it shouldn't matter due to repeats at later hours and VoD.

next year TWC is supposed to be rolling out 6 tuner QAM/DOCSIS IP hybrid gateway boxes. They have lined up the DCX3600M as one of the boxes they will deploy.

A marketing piece from a year ago. Interesting though. Would be a great addition to a signature at home package.

I've been running a CableCard+Tuning Adapter for almost a year now with no problems. Although I'm using a HDHomerun Prime and WMC not a Tivo. But I would expect a Tivo should work just as well. It always saddens me when people can't get it to work for them when it worked so well for me.
