DIR-615 suddenly halved wireless speed.Having been using this router for some time and wireless speed between router and PC about 20 meters away have been very good. Connection:Excellent Speed: 10MB/sec. Suddenly without any known changes speed drops to 5MB/sec. Connection still excellent. Managed to get it back up to original speed for some time after rebooting but now stuck at lower speed. Replaced the router with a diffrent one (TP-LINK TD W8960N) and this one gives me about 9.8MB/sec.
What could possibly have happened to the DIR-615? |

Try using Mixed G and N modes if your not using A or B modes? Try setting a manual channel. Any other WiFi near by? Use InSSIDer application to find out. |

Have tried other settings mixed/n-only/different channels but these changes makes only small changes to transfer speeds. Now using CH 5. Have one more WiFi close. Connection:Fair Using CH 1. Despite all this still have only half the speed on DIR-615 compared to my spare router TP-LINK TD W8960N. Why would one router with equal settings suddenly only give half the speed it usually managed? |

Might be due to interferences. Not all settings are the same and not all routers are the same. Drivers up to date on the client side? What happens if you take the 615 to a different location, say a friend or families place. Same thing?
Turn off any 3rd party firewall programs as well.
What HW version is this router and what FW version is currently loaded? |

HW: E4 FW:5.10
Have to accept that the reduced speed has something to do with increased interference so decided to move the AP closer to wireless connected PC's. However do not have full access to the network. Set up as follows. Location A. 3xPC connected to D-Link DSL-2640T Modem/Router.
20m CAT5e cable connects D-Link DSL-2640T (Loc A) to DIR-615 Loc B.
Location B 2xPC connected wirelessly to DIR-615. Have Internet through the whole network and local network connections within Loc A and Loc B respectively. No network connections between Loc A and Loc B. Can ping PC's at Loc A from Loc B and vice versa. No filesharing. Is it possible to have filesharing between Loc A and Loc B with this setup? Or do I have to get a switch at Loc A and move DSL-2640T to Loc B and use cable to connect to switch at Loc A?
The DSL-2640T is set to PPP (no bridge) and DIR-615 is set to fixed IP Internet |

Probably not since you have PCs connected to the DSL ISP modem/Router.
I recommend the following setup: ISP modem (bridged)>DIR-615>external Gb network switch>All wired PCs to the switch. This will help you get all file and PC sharing going and eliminate any unnecessary router processing.
Use InSSIDer application to see how many other WiFi networks are near by. It's possible that your area is congested with 2.4Ghz WiFi, if so, I would consider going to 5Ghz. |
