Fantasy Football Discussion

Hey,

Lets talk number one draft picks and starts.

I am number 8 in my cash league. I will drafting a RB/QB in the first round. My QBs I would take in round 1 are Rodgers, Brady, Vick, or Stafford. If those guys aren't available I will wait till round 3 or 4 I think.

Also looking for a TE in the first 3 or 4 rounds. The top TEs are heads above Tier 2.

WRs are my last pick ups this year. Too much unpredictability.

It's been awhile since I participated in fantasy football, but we'd make fun of people that drafted QBs in the first round. Sure, there are a couple of QBs that stand out from the crowd, but you can be the last guy to select a QB and still get a good one. Reliable running backs and receivers are hard to find. Grab them in the first round.

I would agree with you at some point in time.

Now with almost all teams running multi back setups and shut down corners really making elite WRs a tough call on some matchups. Elite QBs are the consistency point. Brady/Rodgers/Stafford are about as reliable as you can get during draft point. Vick can win you the week by himself but has more potential to fail completely as well.

In the past I have drafted RB,RB with good success. I don't think there is enough depth of 1 back teams to do this again this year.

The difference between the #3 QB and the #10 QB is minimal, though. If you're not getting Brees, there's likely another position that will help you more.

So last year 3 of the top 4 RB's drafted were busts.

Consequently the top 4 QBs drafter were in the top 7 or 8 at the end of the year. The idea is its a safer pick.

Pick up RBs in the higher rounds and wait on WR's.

I'd rather get Rodgers/Brees/Brady/Stafford and be sure of my production from them than drafting Adrian Peterson or Ray Rice and watching another knee injury destroy my season.

The odds are the RBs and WRs will see more injuries than the QB's.

I am not drafting Vick anymore ever. Hurt in preseason game yesterday. Maybe a rib fracture.

Injuries are a killer, no way to see them coming. I always drafted the backup for my starting QB in the last round. Just in case.

A guy I work with plays FF for money at the casino. He wins a significant amount of money every year simply by making trades and waiver wire pickups for whoever is hot at the time. The league charges one dollar for roster moves so most owners don't bother. My buddy drops over one hundred dollars on roster moves every season but usually wins more than enough to cover it. Plus the casino rewards him for making so many transactions with free trips to Vegas.

I may or may not draft a backup. Waiver QB's are fine for the bye week. No need to doubt your starter.

I will be RB WR heavy and will pick Kicker D in the last two rounds.

Don't waste your time drafting Vick. I made that mistake last year. He has played 1 full season in his entire career. He is already getting knocked around in the preseason.

Do not use your first round pick on Vick. He can produce awesome fantasy points but he's hurt so darn often that he'll leave you scoreless some weeks.

See last line of previous post.

I was condsidering it before this last preseason game. Fragile again this year. Roders/Brees/Brady/Stafford are my targets round 1 I think. Hopefully a top 5 back early round 2.

I'm actually playing FF for the first time in years. If anybody has pointers I'd love to hear'em. Standard 8 man ESPN league. I guess an RB first, unless I pick middle to late and the top guys are gone and someone like Brady, Rogers, or Brees is sitting there.

Go to ESPN they have a full fantasy draft kit with a bunch or rankings.

WR is really deep this year. TE is pretty deep, but the top 2 or 3 are the cream of the crop. QB is top 3 or 4 are elite. RBs basically you want at least one 3 down back that doesn't split carries. It will be hard to pick up 2, but pick up someone you think has alot of upside along with consistent output.

Draft D and kickers in the last rounds. The difference between the first d and the last is miniscule usually and they are hard to predict. Kickers are pointless and impossible to predict as well.

One of the big considerations is scoring for TD passes. If they're 4 points each, QB's are of above-average importance. If passing TD's are 6 points each, the league will be totally dominated by the teams with the best QB's.

4 pts per TD, and I think 1 pt per 25 yds passing. Draft is tomorrow and I'm totally unprepared

This is my first FF league and I need a little help with my picks, I'm in a 18 team league with the 6th overall pick I am hoping to get a top RB, if not a top QB with my first pick. Could someone check my draft order for my top 7 picks and tell me where I'm going wrong.

1 RB
2 TE
3 WR
4 QB
5 WR
6 RB
7 QB

BTW.. Passing TD 4 points, rushing TD 6, receiving TD 6.

with an 18 team league you will be stretching on your last picks. I support an early TE, but make sure your pick isn't too high or you are passing up on a primo QB/RB.

Go on espn/fantasy and read about some sleeper picks. In 18 team league your last 5-6 rounds are going to be stretching the rb and wr positions. Its good to have an idea of which really low guys you are looking at before hand.

I wouldn't draft Vick at all to be honest. I drafted an unknown Peyton Manning over him in my draft. In my 6 team league for money Vick is still a free agent.. Too injury prone, makes too many mistakes.. Outside of 7 amazing games in 2010 he hasn't really done anything..

Shady McCoy is the only one worth drafting in the first 2 rounds off the Eagles. He wont get that 20 tds he had last year but he should have a pretty good year, he will take a big hit though from King Dunlap as the starting LT now that Peters is done for the year.

I would draft him as the best backup you can get but that would be it and I wouldn't draft him in the first 10 rounds. Too much upside to pass completely.

Maybe I would pass in a 6 team, but I'm running a 10 and I guarantee someone will be taking him as a starter. I don't play with the smartest lol.

My other league is a 10 person League 1500 dollars pot.. Vick will get drafted in that one for sure but probably as a backup.. He's just not reliable.. Sure he can go off and score 5 total TDs throw for 250+ and run for 100+ but he can also die any given play..

OK, first FF team in years, 8th pick in 8 man league:

QB – Brady, Flacco , Dalton
RB – CJ2K, Gore, McGahee, Kevin Smith
WR – AJ Green, Jordy Nelson, Torrey Smith, DeSean Jackson, Nate Washington
TE – Jermichael Finley, Witten
D/ST – Falcons
K - Gould

Wouldn't you know the Steeler fan douche who named his team Wide Left autodrafted Ray Rice.

I like the WR/QB section.

Dalton is over kill drop him for an RB that has potential. Its better to have a bench full of RBs/WRs as one of them are bound to get some play time because of injuries.

Brady/Jackson/CJ2k/Gore is really strong.

Gore and CJ2K are older though so try and get their handcuffs if still possible.

I would drop Flacco IMO I think Dalton will be better than Flacco. But def only keep 2 QBs no need for 3 unless you have Vick lol

Ah but you must not be aware of the new magical no-huddle we'll be employing 75% of the time . Seriously though Flacco is my homer pick and there's no way I'm dumping him.

I think Flacco is a game manager.

They are a run first team no matter what offense they are running.
Flacco usually has ok numbers and rarely has great numbers. Hes a good bye week play w/o a lot of upside. Hes consistently ok which is a good trait for a bye week. DONT YOU EVER START HIM OVER BRADY! EVER!

Dalton has upside and DOWNSIDE.

Yeah, I know - Brady is my main starter for sure. As far as dropping Dalton and adding an RB - do you think Donald Brown would be a good move? He's the next highest rated RB. Mendenhall is on the list too.
