[nyc] 6 downstream channels just kicked in + other changes..

Click for full size
new signal stats
tonight my modem lost net and was tyring to find connection for 30 min, telephone call told me there was outtage but now it came back and it seems some work was done, I now see 6 downstream channels and all 4 upstream channels are 16QAM max no more 64QAM which means my packet loss problems should go away, I HOPE it stays this way:

However, I did notice that my first hop pings are much higher and I am being routed through NJ now on first hop....(wtf) so maybe this is only testing or something.

Yeah in west side Man'h lost signal 6:30 p to 7 p. Didn't check speed tests but ran ok until 1/2 hr ago when went offline 3 mins just to annoy my trading. Yesterday it was off/on 3 times during the day for 15 mins each time before 6:30 p one.
Called today & nothing from their end except that usual crap about we'll rerun from our end taking you off line for 5 mins. Screw that, hung up. Win 7 x64 Ultimate just turbo LAN.
Real pos with the ubee modem thing. It also goes off line overnite half the time so have to reboot it on start up. Jacked up the connections # in registry to 20 since I run lot of stuff intraday.
Crossing fingers.
Edit update. Well yesterday after net out at 3:30 p I bite the bullet. First called TWC again. Actually got helpful lady. She said to get a SMC modem from office. Added it was DOCSIS 3.0 per my question. Looked up and only 3 SMC listed & not so. May list only had Motorola models as that.
Figuring net out anyway, down to E 23 St Man'h. Summer so short wait. Some CSRs just looking at screens, one guy chatting up lady co-worker passing by. Finally got lucky lady. I unloaded. No more Ubee damn it. Well she hauls out this plastic bag wrapped modem. It's heavier & bigger than Ubee.
I didn't even think to look for a transformer. Quick scan and it looked cool. ARRIS brand. Figure what the hey, gotta be better. Home & brief moment of where dat brick. Oh just power cord so weight is built in brick & battery. Study the lights. fire it up. Boom, online no rebooting. Full 20/2 unlike the 12/2 before. Has stayed on solid thru mega sites & movies that crashed Ubee. Left on 24/7 and no need to reboot when PC cold start. Only thing is Sleep PC pops up a box about Retry when PC awakened. Prob a bios setting.
There's a button on top but no idea what it does. Used a metal letter opener to reach reset button for 15 secs to return to factory defaults if mess up at the modem site.
Just left defaults since speeds same no matter the changes to Firewall & such on LAN/PC basic setup.
End of 3+ months of crap. Such a relief!

I believe the answer is yes provided you connect throught the ethernet cable and assigning your pc a static ip within the Ubee's DHCP ip range. Ex. if the Ubee's lan ip is 192.168.01 then you can assign static from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.253. That's how I manage my ARRis modem that is in bridge mode. But if you only want to see the stats, you don't have to do the above, access it through your browser »192.168.100.1

Kinda new with this. Why/when does a modem need managing? Is there something I should customize in it?

Plain modems do not need (and are not capable of) being "managed," but when it's combo modem/router/wireless access point (like the Arris bluepoint See Profile's speaking of) there are some things you can change (SSID, WPA keys, possibly the internal network address range, etc).

What mackey See Profile said. You only want to get in there if the modem is a wireless router also and there are things you want to tweak.

I just noticed something it seems that your CMTS has the new ARRIS 24U linecard on the upstreams! Cool »www.arrisi.com/products/product. ··· sp?id=73

This is true due to you having a upstream id higher than 12 as the older arris linecards for the upstream only had 1-12 as the upstream id's and the new one is 1-24 on the upstream id's.
