Re: [OOL] Slow/Timeouts today in CT

some people lost big bucks thanks to this prolonged outage

Which is why someone who has a business that relies on an Internet connection should have a backup or at least a service level agreement.

I am across the street from the NY Botanical gardens in Bronxwood. I have boost plus, no TV or phone.

This is a sign that you should go for a walk in the gardens!

Just returned from a nice long walk in the gardens. Found that the modem is no longer flipping out. Flipped on the computer and all looks like it's back to normal. Can reach all my normal sites, and the speed looks normal too:

Wonder what the big failure was all about.

I live in westchester and the internet service has been going in and out. Like modem having all the lights on but still no network. I restarted it and it was refusing to complete the cycle.

I unplugged the power, unscrewed the coax, reconnected the power, waited couple of seconds and then reconnected the coax.

It worked, but still the service goes in and out.

Also some pixelation and sound jittering going on. NOt sure if that is outage related but.

Boy am I glad I was at work today! Just checked my line monitors, and the others in Dutchess and Westchester.. The line monitors reported total outage from around 10:30 this morning til around 4:00 this afternoon. Good thing too no one at home had an emergency, that was our phone, too.

Too much to expect to have reliable cell signal at the house.

I really dodged a bullet on that one. Hubby was off today, and he was home. At least the weather was nice - he found stuff to do outdoors.

Packet loss in Yorktown, NY. Those of you saying it's fixed - it's most likely not. It's on and off.

Ditto. Still having major connectivity/routing issues here in Bedford Hills, NY as of 10:17 PM. It's extremely frustrating when your job relies on the net.

Well, Wilt posted in Yahoo cv tv group "Yes, all should be up and working now." So you might have a different problem then what hit most of us.

I saw on the news they were blaming some communication interruption on the train derailment outside Baltimore. Doubt this had anything to do with the CV issues, but the internet is not perfect.

More likely something more local with CV - either their network or one of their peering connections.

I don't think so. Maybe some of you just think it's fixed because you're able to surf the net and not get booted from your cable modem like earlier today. There are still major packet loss, connectivity and redirect issues, though. Same shit that's been going on since early this morning.

There's a little SERVICE ALERT on the optimum.net homepage if anyone cares.

The only "alert" I see if from Global Automall. And this one: "Celebs Share New Bikini Pics!" And that video doesn't work.

Welcome to DSL Reports!

If you are getting redirect issues, you seem to have a different issue. You might want to check for malware on your computer. That is not a symptom of the issues yesterday, which seem to be resolved for other users.

Oh no, this definitely wasn't malware. I wasn't talking about those kinds of redirects. I meant network redirects because of a Cisco hardware issue on OOL's end.

About an hour after making my post last night I too noticed that all of the issues seemed finally rectified. But when I made the post it was definitely still the same shit with some sites hanging, not connecting, slow to respond, etc.

Thanks for the welcome... I've actually been a lurker on this site for about the past decade or maybe even more.

I just got a voicemail at work from Cablevision about this outage. They said it multiple equipment failures and they have added more equipment to make it more reliable.

Also will be issuing a $15 credit for the outage. We barely use the cablemodem and I am not even sure we had any issues.

Wonder if we will get a credit on my home account?

I got an email stating the same thing - I was absolutely amazed.
