Re: [DSL] Good News - DSL upgrades

I wonder how long it will be before some wholesaler starts taking advantage of the fact that all DSL tiers are now priced the same and start decoupling internet connection speeds from sync speeds. An ISP could sell symmetrical speeds, for example, like 5/5 or 10/10. Since the primary cost differentiator is now usage patterns (for both transit and UBB charges), a 10/10 service would indeed have substantially different costs than 25/10, even when provided on the same wholesale VDSL2 tier.

Oops. Sorry that was a typo. I meant will it effect the services, like possible upgrades to the phone line on my street? More TSI services for me to get?

Are you asking if you'll get fibe 25?

I would be happy with this one. If it will come to me in the near future.

Would fibe 25 be the same as this one? »teksavvy.com/en/resident ··· d-dsl-25

Yeah could be that they are doing some upgrades.

that might be why the TSI site isn't listing any services for my road even though I know that I can get DSL 6.

Hey I was hoping someone in the forums can explain to me the differences between Vdsl estimated loop length, Near end loop length and far end loop length. can anyone chime in on whether my line stats will be able to handle the upgrade or not.

ali gil, how do you get your line information with the Cellpipe? When I go to the VDSL tab, I just see the 1st 2 lines of your screenshot...

Hey,

can you go to this site please ....

»www.thinkbroadband.com/d ··· oad.html

and download 200MB or 512MB file and post your speedtest results, because I seem to be having a problem. For my neighbour it works just fine.

yea my profile syncs at 17984/888 and these are the speeds and download speeds I've been getting since 13th SEPT 2012, more or less, ever since I was problem free .....

The people posting low pings are on VDSL2, which has substantially lower inherent latency than ADSL2+, which you're on (or rather your speedtests are consistent with a 15/1 connection). There are a whole bunch of reasons for this; higher downstream and especially upstream, no more ATM causing tons of overhead (and for tiny packets like ICMP to get multiplied by not quite fitting into packets), probably higher priority from Bell, a negligible amount of interleaving relative to speed, etc.

Me either. I even tried putting in a request for it via the Direct Forum, and was denied because (quoting) "WHDSL 25M/1-7M/CUSTOMER IS ON THE HIGHEST PROFILE POSSIBLE.FULL SYNC." Of course, it says right in there that they are only doing the upload profile from 1-7M, so being on 7M, of course I'm on the highest sync, the whole point was they are supposed to be doing upgrades to 10M.

I got my upload speed bump to 10Mb/s (from 7Mb/s) sometime in the last 24 hours. This was after putting in a request on Thursday.
