Re: Taco Bell

said by Robotics:

Out here we call it Taco Hell. It is nasty food (at least in these parts) and they really never have a whole lot of business when you drive by any given time.

I prefer to make my own tacos at home. Man they are good

When I was first dating my wife every time I showed up at her house (parents) her mom was making tacos. Her mom fed everyone who came through the door if they wanted it.
Yet like for almost an unlimited run I showed up when making tacos or she hated me.
I heard of all the other food she cooked and how great. Yet in the dating phase well it did not exist. Still the tacos where good but until this day it is an inside joke.

Canned chili. Deming NM fresh chile best level of your choice. Secondary is Hatch chili.
But best is fresh Deming then Hatch.

THIS!

I tried and tried to get my wife to do this. She will never do it. It makes the meat so good.

When I was single I did it all the time for tacos.

I am hungry also my friend!!

I guess what i was trying to say in my thread here is: The shells are not as crunchy as they used to be.... (You used to bite into it and it fell apart as you ate it,now they are kinda like a bit soggy, etc .. You bite into it and it takes a little bit more pressure to break it..... I dunno

I remember the first time i got one of those kind... I hated it,i thought maybe it was just a bad batch of shells (Not fresh) but they seem to chnged how they make them FOR THE WORSE..

And the BEEF thjey use tastes like shit now also.. IT USED TO BE DELICIOUS!!

Im sorry if anyone is offended by my using caps,im trying to have what im saying stand out (Be more noticable) I am not yelling @ anyone!!

I would have to agree they are a little soggy now. But I can't stop eating them.

Although, there is a Tex Mex place across the street and the crunchy tacos there are super crunchy.

Re: Taco Bell

said by signmeuptoo:

Dude, stop yelling already.

I make better tacos at home. I use there ingredients:
(here it is again, with meaures so you can replicate my specialite:)

1/2 Tsp Goya Adobo seasoning con pimienta
1 packet Goya "Sazon Goya" Con Culantro y Achiote
1/4 Tsp Korniko Chipotle seasoning
1/3 Tsp Badia Sazon Tropical
1/2 Tsp mexican oregano
2 Tsp comino molido (ground cumin)
2 Tsp Chili Powder
1 large clove garlic

(since there are several of the above, I go very easy on them, it's the touch of flavor, not the blast.)

Olive Oil
1 & 1/2 pd Ground Sirloin fried and drained and processed in food processor to fine grain
1 pd FRESH Ground Pork, done just like above
a sweet spanish onion
a poblano chili or a can of green chilis
a small green bell pepper
an 8 oz can of plain tomato sauce
a can of refried beans
water
no added salt
home made hot sauce with peppers from my own garden

Prep: Mince onion and fry in olive oil until just browned, remove. Mince all peppers and fry until skin starts to come off, put lid on peppers to soften them, remove.

Fry meats until gently browned. Put cooled down meat into food processor with S blade and process until fine grain size.

In large cast iron skillet put refried beans in skillet and add moisture from beef broth or water until beans wet enough to bubble up from heat. In a bowl, add seasonings to meat mixture and heat up. Add vegetables and stir. Add to beans and stir until slightly thick. Add a touch of red wine to improve consistently.

Serve sparingly in taco shells with accoutrements.

Mince onion
I prefer soft corn tortillas or large flour tortillas

filling:
very firm tomatoes
sweet onions
mild cheese (I can't eat cheese, but for others)
iceburg lettuce
pace picante or my own home made picante

mine has no pink slime since I buy the better ground meat, sirloin has flavor. Mine has pork. Mine has the best seasonings

The Taco Bell meat doesn't taste like meat because, -it is not meat.

I wouldn't be surprised if the shells were not corn, but rather a corn flavored substance.

40 percent beef. Hmm, worse than I thought. Mine is about 60 percent meat because if you read my recipe, it's got peppers, onions, refried beans, and other stuff. That is ok, but what they are doing is pulling a fast one. And of that 40 percent, how much is pink slime?

Want a Slurm with that?

Yay for citing bullcrap!

88% beef, 12% seasoning, water, and other additives (which is nothing that isn't found in every other processed food anyway).

The standard for whatever the hell the exact wording they use only requires 40% beef.

After dealing with food poisoning a couple years ago, I never want to deal with the Taco Smell again!

But I do miss eating their Mexican Pizzas
