Exede - Official Speed Posting Test Lounge -

The purpose of this speed test lounge is to log and consolidate Exede 5 and 12 user Speed Test. By posting your speed test here, users will have a better idea of how well Exede's network is performing and what to Expect from Exede Satellite Internet Service.

In order to compare Apples to Apples please use »testmy.net/ and post the Details and image URL as its easier to read. Why am I recommending "testmy"? Most people here seem to respect its results more so than others.

When placing a post, please note the following in your post.
1. Post the Exede plan your on. Example: Exede Plan: " 12 "
2. If your signature does not include your location. Please include the state your located in.
3. If you know which beam your on, please share it also.

Here is a Template below for Copy and Paste.
---------------------
Exede Plan: " ? "
State: " ? "
Beam No: " ? "
---------------------

If you share your speed test in another post, be sure and stop by to share it on the Official Speed Test Posting Lounge. Having compiled records of testing in one post will make quick time of doing assessments and possibly give a idea of what direction the service is headed in.

Please Do Not Hi-Jack this thread, Or respond to a Speed Posters Test. .... Simply Post your Speed Test and a brief comment. If you wish to make a discussion about your speed test, please post it here, than create a New Topic for discussion.

Always pull up Task Manager, and look at Networking to see if anything is going before running a test.

A minimum of 12 Mbyte payload for download, and 2.9 Mbyte payload for upload.

I think its best to use 1 Mbyte payload first for download, and then Testmy should reject this, and up the size.

Here's what a 22 Mybte download looks like, after Testmy bumped it up from 3 Mybte payload.

As noted before, one is most likely on Beam 320 via Winnipeg, and using Seattle AcceleNet Server.

Interesting, another person on Beam 319, with same Gateway/Server as yours, is reporting good results this week.

Maybe one could report your SNR, Cable Attenuation, and Cable Resistance values in your other thread;

Probably would have been better to have said less. Anonymous cheap shots don't show much class. But you're clearly misinformed. Never sold a satellite in my life, I'm a retired telecommunications troubleshooter and satcom engineer. I've probably forgotten more about this stuff than you'll ever learn

Why do you always purposely delete all data below the time stamp from your download results?

Something maybe you don't want to revile to readers?

Based on your results you must only post results from your linux box as your Exede 5 windows results suck worse than my HughesNet HN9000 setup .... Most readers assume users are using a windows box unless you state otherwise.

Re: HughesNet Old HN9000 System

I interrupted the wife on the desktop this morning long enough to run an upload test just to demonstrate that a wired connection is a little faster than a wireless...especially, like me, when the wireless laptop is near the edge of the wireless signal...probably looses some packets and has to re-transmit because of the weaker wireless signal..anyway, this is just a little above my upload speed average from the desktop...usually 2.4-2.6mbs, but illustrates my point:

You notice I don't attempt to hide anything on my download results?

Actually, one is deceiving users when they don't understand that when Hughes server is playing "ping-pong" with Testmy's server; its not a realistic test.

The above photo, taken the other day, shows a "ping-pong" illusion, but I've never claimed Exede 5 can run this fast during DLs. There can be momentary spikes in speeds that exceed the value above, but these speeds can not be sustained for long.

Hence, an unrealistic test result

said by Just For U :

Why do you always purposely delete all data below the time stamp from your download results?

Removing clutter that has no relevance. What people should be looking at is the Validation Link. For instance, when users look at this Hughes Validation Link, »testmy.net/db/NP1mfQ7 , and then click on user's Connection ID, »testmy.net/compID/6157224633542 , they can see this Hughes user has taken all tests todate in the wee hours of the morning. And his test scores range from about 5 mbps to 17 mbps.

Something maybe you don't want to revile to readers?

When my Connection ID is clicked on, one can see testing has been done at many different time spots. Compared to your wee-hour testing, mine shows the readers a realistic overview of one user on a specific beam, WB-1: 163, using Exede 5 service; whereas yours is rather biased (wee hours only), and is not a realistic assessment of Hughes when a test represents a "ping-pong" score between Hughes server and Testmy's server.

Compression can also play a role in creating unrealistic speedtest results if speedtests use data that can be compressed. I know from experience that Opera Turbo can exaggerate download results by as much as 20% on testmy.net using slower DSL/cable connections compared to having Opera Turbo turned off.

My tests have been via FireFox or WaterFox recently.

But, I do have Opera installed, with Turbo mode turned on. Notice that Opera "flat-lines" around 10 mbps via other users; hence, Turbo mode tops out around 10 mbps.

Spin it all you want ...... Facts are Facts ...... it has been written on the wall.

So to sum all of this up for everyone. If all test are performed on the same test site ...... we are all playing ping pong together its just a matter of which browser your using!
