davePremium,MVM join:2000-05-04 not in ohio kudos:8 | where bag? Anyone know where in a 2010 BMW 328i sedan (no nav system) the passenger front airbag emerges from? It says "airbag" on the right-hand end of the fascia, but I really can't see any part that's going to open up, and maybe that refers to the side bag anyway.
I'm interested in knowing where *not* to place a portable GPS unit, since I'd rather not blast it into the passenger's face if I should collide with anything. |

Looking at my Bentley manual for my 2001 330i - the side airbag comes from the door, head bag comes from the a pillar and along the top door frame. The passenger comes from where you would expect it. Just above my glove box there is a piece of 'wood' or brushed aluminum that pops off. The plastic piece of the dash just above that is where the passenger side bag comes from... Between the air vent by the side window and the center vent cluster.
There really is no other place for it to be and for it to be useful. -- Brian

CylonRedPremium,MVM join:2000-07-06 Bloom County | Probably - I would expect the ridge to break open - though I can't imagine having a GPS that far from me.... My eyes are not that good... -- Brian

The left-to-right placement of my arrows was not intended to be significant. But if as I had supposed the bag came out through the 'top' of the fascia (as it did on my very old Civic) than there was the possibility that the top was going to hinge up in a dangerous way.
I'll go eyeball the centre-section (the wood bit) tomorrow for likelihood of bag egress. Maybe I should just call the dealer.
My eyes are converting to presbyterianism so I don't want the GPS too close, though. |

Not the best picture but does show an e90's passenger - does not look like a ton of damage on passenger side. -- Brian

davePremium,MVM join:2000-05-04 not in ohio kudos:8 | The images of popped airbags don't have a dash that looks like mine (see the image I posted - pretty much identical to my car, except I don't have automatic transmission).
Note the top of the dash is flat and there's no obvious 'boundary' lines. Contrast the best of the popped-bag shots, which shows a sloped dash, and a clearly-delineated area which turned out to have the airbag in it.
But I appreciate the help nevertheless. |

CylonRedPremium,MVM join:2000-07-06 Bloom County | I linked to a E90 BMW image with the passenger side popped. Part of the dash can be seen. It looks like the seam pops open - not a lot of damage to the dash.
Not the best image but the only one I found in a few seconds of looking. You might be able to find better images with more time on BMW forums like BimmerWorld.com, E46\E90Fanatics.com and the like.... -- Brian
