Will buying a used Motorola NVG-510 U-Verse modem work?
I am purchasing new service for AT&T U-Verse internet only at 6 Mbps, and AT&T is sending me a Motorola NVG-510 U-verse modem. On ebay I can buy one for $20 used, instead of paying AT&T a $100 charge. Should I have issues with purchasing a used modem, or is this a good way to save a few bucks? Thank you!
reply to cmac Any compatible modem will sync and authenticate to your account unlike the VDSL2 modems that have to be specifically provisioned by ATT. There's nothing wrong with trying to get a second hand 510, but you get stuck without a 1 year warranty and have to get the new 510 back within 30 days to get your $100 refunded.
reply to Forosnai My old VDSL2 modem was PPPoE nothing special about it. I did self install and it never asked for anything but a username and password that I had to create. That was the 2Wire box. I moved though and could only get IP-DSL U-Verse and got a new modem from them and that did NOT require anything. I plugged it in and it logged in.
