donoreoPremium join:2002-05-30 North York, ON | [SU] 10.8.1 is out Apple today released OS X 10.8.1, the first maintenance update to OS X Mountain Lion. The update is available directly from Apple's site or via the Software Update mechanism that directs users to the Mac App Store for updates. This update includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac, including fixes that:
- Resolve an issue that may cause Migration Assistant to unexpectedly quit - Improve compatibility when connecting to a Microsoft Exchange server in Mail - Address an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display - Resolve an issue that could prevent iMessages from being sent - Address an issue that could cause the system to become unresponsive when using Pinyin input - Resolve an issue when connecting to SMB servers with long names - Address a issue that may prevent Safari from launching when using a Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) file - Improve 802.1X authentication with Active Directory credentials. OS X 10.8.1 is a relatively small update at just 24.2 MB, with Apple pushing out a handful of high-priority fixes for issues discovered in the initial public release of OS X Mountain Lion.

Awesome...this is why I stopped using Windows. Off to get the DL from Apple.com
EDIT - Stand alone installer failed too. Wouldn't install on either 2011 MBA or Mini. Finally installed on the MBA after 2 attempts. The Mini took 3. Each time it would seem to finish but report that the install failed. Console didn't show any problems but on the third time it took the install. WTF. I been having the worst luck with my HW lately. |

I have heard of some failed 10.8.1 upgrades that seemed to have actually worked. |

When I selected update, it started to download the whole damn OS again.
Guess I'll be on 10.8 until I find it on the Apple site to download... if it's even there. -- "If something about the human body disgusts you, complain to the manufacturer" - Lenny Bruce What this country needs is a good five dollar plasma weapon. |

 | What am I missing, I check for updates on my 10.7.4 OS and it says I am up-to-date...
I launched itunes and logged into appstore but don't see any update notice there or anything related to MacOSX update. Can you enlighten me somebody?
Edit: I see original poster using OS name OS X Mountain Lion. Is that some new OS version from 'Lion'? I guess that's where the glitch is? |

You're currently on Lion 10.7. I believe the upgrade price was $19.99 on the App Store. Search for "Mountain Lion" and you'll find it.
Edit: Mountain Lion (10.8) is to Lion (10.7) what Snow Leopard (10.6) was to Leopard (10.5). A more of an intermediate release rather than a full blown OS update with tons of new features. That's why they cost less now, and are released more often. -- GO BLUE JAYS!

 | Thanks, just looked around as you suggest and found out.
Maybe I should just wait a bit or is it update that runs without a glitch for most people? I maintain iMacs for a family and do it via remote LMI connection and would hate to mess their three iMacs up if I can help it. |
