Re: Happy Returns

I checked on the Gigabyte website regarding Bios flashing, and they state on there that if your system is running stable with no problems, then don't flash to a newer version.

Haha, hey I'm just wondering. I've never flashed a Bios before. So I have no clue what could happen.

Oh. There are times it will wipe all your bios settings, you just have to set it again. Like IDE to AHCI, disable onboard sound, disable onboard graphics, video card to PEG(Unless your mainboard is on AUTO.) etc.

Add "recreate your RAID array" to that list, too.

That's why I put etc. >.>

Again it depends if you want the features advertised in the update right?

I usually do 'em all because I love having stuff bleeding edge, but if you're getting good performance, and you're not interested in the featured offered by the update, it may not be worth the effort.

Yep. I checked the F8 Bios description, and all it says is "Improved Keyboard Compatibility"

If I end up getting a wireless KB down the road and it doesn't work, then I'll update the Bios I guess.

I usually only update the bios when I first install the motherboard, and then I only care about a new bios if something isn't working correctly. However, 4 months from now I may stumble across the Asus site only to find a new bios version posted.

Unfortunately for most Asus motherboards, the bios versions almost always include something generic about improving stability. It's agonizing knowing that there could be a better version available that might give me a small performance improvement.

Must...resist...temptation...to...flash...unnecessarily...
