Will this update fix the issue where icons for programs in folders load very slow?

I really hate that!

You can start here -- Microsoft Security Essentials Prerelease

I would suggest you read the information on that page thoroughly before installation.

Locked clickables in outlook 2010 -Post MS Essentials update

As I get older I thought my time would be more my own, no such luck. I can spend the time if I have to, however there are enough smart folks around here to cut reinventing the wheel down a wee bit.

Because when the need arises I can take care of maleware on the fly, I simply use MS Essentials and as time became more of an issue, paid for Malware Bytes. I noticed with the last Essentials update, when using MS Office 2010, I was no longer able to execute a link from an email, I did a quick check on parameters in Outlook and the best I could find was zipo, nothing, but noticed 'Folder Permissions' grayed out.

Is there a work around? Win 7 Pro

Thanks in advance.

In Windows 8, Windows Defender is the equivalent.

In Windows 8, Windows Defender is actually MSE

...

In Windows 8, Windows Defender is actually Microsoft Security Essentials. Those who have installed Windows 8 may have noticed that Microsoft has rechristened Microsoft Security Essentials as Windows Defender. In its earlier iterations, while the former offered anti-virus protection, the latter gave anti-spyware protection. In Windows 8, Microsoft has decided to combine both these protections in one program and call it Windows Defender.

Re: [Info] Microsoft Security Essentials PRE-RELEASE Updated

The solution is to add explorer.exe to list of excluded processes.
Go to settings -> excluded processes -> browse to C: windows , scroll down till you see explorer.
Now add to list ( C:\windows\explorer.exe )
I have been mailing with microsoft about this issue and they say its OK to do that!

Enjoy !

To kiwi,
"when using MS Office 2010, I was no longer able to execute a link from an email,"
This worked for my Outlook.

It's been crazy busy in my neighbourhood -This worked, it's actually a stupid little reg file that MS should have thought of; but for those of us trending 12 hr work days, 6 days a week; we depend on a quick fix, now and again. Provided those myself when a slack period occurs.

Great tip! Been plagued with slow loading icons. Will this fix be necessary in the final version 4.1.0522.0 just released? Does this fix leave explorer.exe vulnerable?

Explorer.exe is not vulnerable, you are still protected all the way!
Thats why a said microsoft MSE support tells its OK to do this fix, but mostly also needed in 4.1.522
