Re: [Extreme Plus] Connection dropping alomst every 5 minutes th

I liken a software firewall to putting a lock on every door inside your house. Once a burglar is through the front door, he can pretty well do anything he wants and destroy every locked door in the place.

A separate firewall, either as a system or router, is like putting a locked gate outside your house. If your burglar is breaking that, he's not in your house. And even better, it's like putting a booby trap on the walk from the gate to the house, if he breaks your gate, chances are he's gonna blow up the walk, so he still can't get to your house.

An external firewall is hands down better than a software firewall on the target system. By all means put a software firewall on a gateway system to your network, but don't rely on it on your target systems.
