Looking bad for Samsung so far; Apple winning on most Samsung devices. Yet to come is Samsung's claims against Apple.

Depending on the damages, clearly there's going to be an appeal. For the kind of damages that Apple is seeking, and if they get a large portion of it, legal fees are a drop in the bucket.

I don't know if it will impact Google too much. Heck, going forward I don't know if it will impact Samsung too much. These were all for relatively older products or non-redesigned ones.

Goober, what's your professional opinion about Judge Koh not allowing Samsung to submit evidence below? Does it help Samsung in the appeal?

And we still have to see how much of the verdict and awards will be set aside by the judge as is often the case in civil lawsuits like this. And then the inevitable appeals.

I'm surprised by a few things that Koh wouldn't allow in. But I don't know the circumstances behind her denial of that kind of evidence. On the face of it, though, I think it would certainly help Samsung in the appeal. The significant part of the decision was based on trade dress. And the disallowed evidence would seem to have bearing on that.

I smell a storm of appeals, Samsung is a huge company and has the cash to keep the lawyers going for ages. They are technically much much bigger than Apple.

Yes there will be appeals as well as escalation of the thermonuclear patent war. While this suit was aimed at Samsung, this was really about Android. Google will have to step up to defend against and countersue Apple.

The trial they need to have is whether Apple's cache of patent-everything claims are in fact valid patents. That a patent was awarded is not enough, which is the heart of the patent brokenness in this country.

Google already has under some of the Motorola patents it acquired when it bought Motorola.

What a joke of a judge! How much did Apple pay Koh? This stinks of something going on outside of the court room.

Whatever it was, it was well worth the money.

Cutting your nose to spite your face, I'd imagine. Don't doubt that they've run all the numbers. We always did.
