Re: [DVR] 7232 Slow, Unrepsonsive Until Warms Up or a Reboot said by TitusTroy: ad deployment system?...so it's not a Guide issue?...ad deployment imbedded within channels?...Nov 26- Jan 7TH??...why does Verizon take so long to fix any sort of widespread issue for?
Ya know... this really pisses me off. They take forever to update the software, claiming "testing". Then, they release junk anyway.
Then... the whole process starts over again!
It's a good thing they keep raising rates. They should make more money for putting out such a quality product. -- "...and all the science, I don't understand. It's just my job, five days a week" |

The issue is not with the IMG but an interaction with the Firmware on the boxes. So a new Firmware had to be developed and is now being tested. It will be deployed in the next few months.
I often hear people confuse Firmware and Software, so for those that want to understand the difference between Firmware (7232) and Software (IMG)...

 | reply to justin9876 issue was inadvertently caused by a new ad deployment system. You should see some improvement in the next 2 weeks as we are disabling this capability on many channels.
We will be deploying a software fix on all your set top boxes between November 26 to January 7 across all FIOS markets which should resolve this issue fully -------------------

 | reply to PJL FYI, a Verizon rep has posted something over on the Verizon Forums that gives a clue of what the problem is, and more importantly a timeframe for when it will be fixed:

1 edit | reply to danger_doug said by danger_doug :I've been having the DVR issue on the 7232. What I found is that even when it won't respond to the box remote, it will respond to the iPhone remote control app without delay. Go figure.
I hope that helps someone. Original comment OBE. |

CeeZee join:2007-04-11 Wynnewood, PA | reply to stevec325 I have an open ticket (but they won't give me an actual ticket number) on the VZ Direct forum. I opened it on 9/16.
The latest news I got from them was on 10/16 after a lot of pleading from me to get an update: "I am sorry there is no update to the issue. The patch is still in testing, and we don't have a timetable for when it will be released. Thank you, ~Eric"
Not very promising.
Edit: the night before I have been changing to the channel I know I want to watch in the morning. |

 | reply to djoropallo So, I've been off the forum for a while...
I have been plagued by this crap for a long time. It used to be very intermittent, but now it happens all the time. At least once each day, sometimes more often, this "delay" happens.
Does anyone have any updates on when we can expect a solution?
Has anyone opened a service ticket, escalated to management, and/or found a workaround? -- "...and all the science, I don't understand. It's just my job, five days a week" |

 | reply to djoropallo Seems to me there are two separate problems.
The won't do anything except output the last channel viewed before shutdown for the first minute or so after initial box turn on has been around forever. I posted a question about this long ago and no one had any answer about what was causing this. It acts like the box is in the middle of a boot up. Leaving the box on doesn't help anything as when the TV is turned on the problem usually reappears. BTW this never happened with my 64xx box which I, probably mistakenly, got replaced because it wouldn't output the new channel guide in 1.9. plus the add on storage ability.
The more recent and more aggravating problem is not changing channels for a long time long after the box is up and running correctly. If you happen to hit on both at the same time it may take quite awhile to change a channel.
Do
a. the people running things know of the problems and
b. do they have any idea how to fix them.
This "it will be in the next release of something at an unspecified date" is techno BS. |
|
 | reply to TitusTroy I had a twitter chat with a rep. They will be releasing a fix with the next channel guide update. ETA unknown. |
|
 | reply to djoropallo how could this issue pop up all of a sudden with no new software update?...it just materialized out of thin air...did something change with the 7232? |

| reply to djoropallo This has all started for me yesterday, I have a 7232 MRDVR setup, and it really is a pain in the a**. This problem seems to affect quite a few people on this board, which represents not even a miniscule percentage of viewers. And strangely enough, it seems to be spreading. How far does this problem actually reach? And what are they doing about it? C'mon, VZ, acknowledge it, and fix it! |

 | reply to djoropallo started having an issue where selecting a channel through the Guide causes a freeze-up...scrolling through the Guide and choosing a channel to watch (choose channel and select OK to view) freezes the entire box for over 1 minute...cannot change channel or use the remote at all...only happens the 1st time and not on subsequent selections |

 | reply to djoropallo Started happening to me recently. Takes almost 1 minute to change the channel.
Then it's fine after. |

sg join:2007-07-23 Montclair, NJ | reply to djoropallo This just started happening to me as well |
|
 | reply to djoropallo Started happening a couple of days ago.
It hangs more then a minute before finally changing channels. At other times when it takes even longer, and I anticipate box may reboot (with a fear from the past where once a spontaneous reboot deleted all internal recordings) I turn the box off and then back on.
How is it possible that instead of fixing this issue it is spreading? Really pissed at the timing too, just as credits expired and cost is up significantly. |

Any time it takes a customer almost a minute to change channels it's inexcusable and to take months to fix is so inexcusable someone needs to be fired. -- "Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT-- |

 | reply to djoropallo I thought mine got a little better, I can change the channel after the unit is initially turned on, but no, after it is on a while it takes forever to change if I use the guide, and VOD takes even longer to load the menu and 3 times as long to load a show. Geesh! |
|
 | reply to djoropallo It has gotten worse with both of my DVR 7232's. It is now taking roughly 1-3 mins for it to unfreeze itself. |
|
 | reply to djoropallo I have this problem on my 7232 at least once a day, usually right after you turn it on. Takes 30 to 45 seconds to change the channel the first time. Very annoying. |
