Every once in a while DSLX makes network changes and dynamic DSL customers get moved to a different IP netblock. This causes me problems when I'm not home and suddenly find I have lost all access.
It's caused by my firewall rules that first prohibit all inbound, then allow only what is necessary. Since DHCP requires port 68 (BootP client) when I find that I've been moved to a different IP range I need to make a hole in the firewall to allow port 68 from the new IP block.
Is there a list of the IP ranges I might expect DSLX to use so I can put them all in the firewall?
These are the IP ranges I've been on the last few years: 66.245.0.0 72.25.0.0 75.79.0.0 208.127.0.0 |

If it's really a big issue, you might want to consider a static IP... but in general, if you're connecting from a particular location you shouldn't see a huge variance in ranges. |

Just to note, I'm connecting from a fixed location (with ADSL) and the IP has changed several times, including three times when I had static service before. Also, going from 208.127.x.x to 75.79.x.x then to 66.245.x.x then to 72.25.x.x is quite a variance, to different IP classes! |

| reply to shortckt Use a NAT router? Firewall rules can be configured for the address assigned by the router; which can be configured as a static assignment. Use a dynamic DNS service with a free, third level domain name for the public IP address.
