[TWC] Upgraded to Extreme 30/5

I just upgraded to Extreme 30/5 so far so good. I like it so far seems my Arris TG852G is holding the speeds good. Is it worth going to the Ultimate 50/5 for another 20 bucks a month?

Is there a reason why you really need 50 down ? I am very happy with the 30/5 level. But after my 1 year deal ends I am probably bumping back down to Turbo level. I really do not do enough downloading to even justify having 30 down, but I do like the upload speed.

If you download often or have a rather large family all using their computers, surfing, downloading, streaming and gaming at the same time, then I say go for it.

Thanks for the reply's! Maybe 3 will be the most on at once here at my place. That's 2 on Netflix or Vudu and one surfing or downloading on the net. But the Netflix watchers will be watching HD and Vudu be in HDX. Just want to make sure it all can be handle with the current speeds.

We have 30/5, mainly for the faster upload speed (we upload a lot to flickr and such) and it's working well for my family.

I'm not sure - for us - it's worth it to go to 50/5. If the upload speed was higher as well, it would be a better value.

When it becomes available here, it will only increase my cost from turbo @ 39$ to extreme 51$ If the speeds stay consistent I will feel I got my money's worth.

Is 15/1 the new standard plan? In my area it's still 10/1, but turbo was upgraded recently to 20/2.

standard has powerboost which is why they are seeing 15Mbps down and 1Mbps upload. The consistent download is 10Mbps on standard after powerboost.

Although on 50/5 and 30/5 tiers there seems to be some over provisioning to make sure you are getting the full 50/5 or 30/5 speeds.

I regularly get 31Mbps down and 5.13 Mbps up on extreme.

It also helps that my area has a total of 232.8 Mbps (6 downstreams*38.8Mbps per downstream channel) bandwidth per node for all of the internet traffic as we used to be maxed out at 155.2 Mbps (4 downstreams*38.8Mbps per downstream channel) per node.

Standard is still listed 10/1 in North Texas (Dallas) but I've been getting a solid 15/1 for the last few months.

Does downstream speed vary at different times of day and in relation to how many people in your vicinity are using the Internet?

I've noticed a small fluctuation (45 of the provisioned 50 mbps) from speed test server to server. The funny thing is that some servers report 45 while others at the very same time report 50 so I would assume that the difference is due to the specific server's traffic more than node load.

In my neighborhood we have lots of homes (with teenagers) using TWC... so far no node congestion (cross fingers)

That is not true, at least for me. I receive a PowerBoost download of about 30 Mbps for about four seconds, then a consistent 15 Mbps.

Trial is the only way to figure it out. Have someone on Netflix/Vudu/Surfing and see how it works. Better routers load balance better which can impact multi-user performance. Vudu say their HDX service requires 5-9 Mbs and Netflix uses less. Theoretically, you have enough bandwidth at your current tier. YMMV.

In my neighborhood, I've noticed no major speed changes throughout the day. It's always between 29 and 31 down (I'm on the 30/5 plan), even during the evening hours (which used to be a disaster years ago when we had RoadRunner).

I'd like to upgrade to Extreme. The web site tells me it's only $10.00 more. But this is way off on what it would really cost me.

Checking with a CSR and my local sales rep I learned a few things.

I have a crazy low priced bundle that's still good for another year(85 a month for 10/1, TV ,phone, DVR and a second STB) +turbo upgrade for$10). If I upped to extreme I would break my bundle and my overall price would go way up.
I'd also start getting charged a modem fee . Today that shows as 2.50 but it's going up to 3.95 in a couple days.

Increase of Standard to 15/1 confirmed.
