You all get the point. Watch what you type or you will not be playing. Sorry if the quotes offend anyone, the funny thing is that the users who posted these things asked to be looked up for why they were banned and everyone saw what they said.

If I cant name myself Adolf Critler and call people fuckasses when they try to adopt black kids from places outside of africa, the terrorists have already won.

I saw someone named "Herpes" in WoW and they were max level. So really it's pretty sad that WoW, which babied people a lot, is more tolerant than Anet. I think Anet doesnt know what theyre doing and hired people to start banning because "it seemed like a good idea".

I don't think grown adults who pay good money to play a game should be kicked out of the game for language when there are already langauge filters in place. If you want to ban for bypassing the language filter, then Im ok with that.

Grown adults wouldn't be using stupid terms and language like that. If you're here to condone that kind of garbage, then I hope you get banned too.

O good lord...

I'm fully on-board with ANet on this. Knock em all out...They've made it pretty clear that they're not going to ban you for cursing, but extreme language or abuse, both of which a filter won't necessarily catch, just shouldn't be tolerated. Why should 500,000 people have to ignore someone, when the problem is with 1 person?

You want to talk like that, go somewhere where it's appreciated. 4chan would love to have you, I'm sure.

I'm not only okay with what they're doing, I applaud them! You purchased their game, you agreed to their terms of agreement. If you want to play the game, follow their rules or gtfo.

I love that the first offense is a strict 72 hour ban. The word will spread that arena.net means business. By just asking the person to re-name opens the door for a million asshats to play coy and try to get around the naming rules. It also adds tons of work on arena.net's support investigating and follow up on the "borderline" names. By doing this arena.net is sending a clear message, if you think your name might be out of line, then it probably is and you take a risk using that name.

Re: [GW2] ArenaNet wielding a mighty banhammer

By establishing the rules and consequences early on our community benefits. Acting like an asshat will now have the same repercussions as doing so in real life, you will be segregated from the rest of the community until you can either stop or leave. Something to keep in mind is that even though your own group of friends talk/act a certain way does not make the behavior acceptable to everyone else nor do they have to tolerate a person's antics just because.

So long as this keeps our community pleasant and removes those types of people that have ruined the communities of other online games I am all for it. Kudos to ArenaNet for setting a standard for decency and enforcing it.

I don't have a problem with what they are doing. Profanity won't get you banned, but directing abuse at others will. They said you always are much less likely to get suspended if you vent in private channels (eg guild/squad) than in public. So be nice.

Good for Arenanet.

The naming policy is very clear in all MMOs and people outright ignore them or come up with ways to bypass them.

So it's good that unlike everyone else, Anet are giving the assholes a swift suspension.
Halfgay is a name I totally expect to see suspended. It's a stupid name, to some it may offend, others it breaks immersion (like it ornot it is an mmoRPG) and quite simply just suggests he is a bit of a dick.

I have no issue with rude language in chat or general assholes because ignoring worksfine, but someone with a stupid name is really in your face whenever you see them so make them change it.

There was a Karma exploit yesterday in which certain Norn karma weapons were sold at 1/1000th of their actual cost. People bought these weapons to put em in the mystic forge and get exotics out of it.

Anet suspended people who bought over 40 but less than 100 for 72 hours. Anyone who bought more than 100 of these weapons were PERMA banned.

Lots of people discussing it on reddit.

They changed the perma bans to 72 hours IF the people email them and apologize. I personally think arena net fucked up. They should have just sucked the items out of the people's accounts, replaced their cash and gave them a warning... I mean people just fucking spent $45 to $60 on their game.. Did arena net temp or perm ban the employee that fucked up? Too harsh.

Yeah I saw the post from the head dev on reddit that said they would give players a chance this one time. I think they wanted to set the tone and make an example out of them. The next exploit that pops up though, I doubt they'll be lenient.

Remember there is no monthly fee to play GW2. There is no financial price to perma ban an account for them to pay. They care more about the integrity of their game, which is respectable.

I still found perma bans a bit harsh, too.

Text of their post on Reddit:

»www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comm ··· exploit/

Today we banned a number of players for exploiting Guild Wars 2. We take our community and the integrity of the game very seriously, and want to be clear that intentionally exploiting the game is unacceptable. The players we banned were certainly intentionally and repeatedly exploiting a bug in the game. We intended to send a very clear message that exploiting the game in this way will not be tolerated, and we believe this message now has been well understood.

We also believe and respect that people make mistakes. This is in fact the first example of a widespread exploit in the game. With this in mind, we are offering the members of our community who exploited the game a second chance to repair the damage that has been done.

Thus, just this once, we will offer to convert permanent bans to 72-hour suspensions. Should those involved want to accept this offer of reinstatement, contact us on our support website--support.guildwars2.com—and submit a ticket through the "Ask a Question" tab. Please use the subject heading of "Karma Weapons Exploit Appeal", then confirm in the body of your ticket that you will delete any items/currency that you gained from the exploit. You should submit only one ticket. Once you have done so, we will lower your ban to 72 hours, and following your re-activation we will check your account to make sure that you have honored your commitment. If that commitment is not honored, we will re-terminate the account.

This is a first and final warning. Moving forward, please make sure you that when you see an exploitable part of the game, you report it and do not attempt to benefit from it.

We look forward to seeing you in game,
Yours Sincerely,
Chris Whiteside- Lead Producer ArenaNet

Anyone perma-banned just needs to open a ticket to have it lowered to a 3-day ban. I'm guessing they won't be so lenient if that same person gets banned again for another exploit.

I, for one, completely agree with them. Build the reputation of having little mercy on exploiters and illegitimate gold farmers, and many cheaters will be discouraged from using GW2 in the first place. They can go back to WoW.

I'm glad they're doing this.

As long as this game doesn't get as bad as WoW with the gold farmers spamming trade, and Bots. Before I quit WoW, that shit was so bad with the chat spamming. I remember in early Cata, the Bots out farming were rampant. It's like Blizzard threw in the towel and said screw it.

So you would support fines and jail for people who say things in public that these characters said in gw2? After all, if it is ok to make these rules in the game, why not apply those rules in public?
