Well, the issue really is: Does the SMC gateway perform to your satisfaction?
On the diagnostic front: are you 100% sure where the problem lies? Is it the modem component or router component? We really need to get into specifics here. Sometimes the simplest thing can be the cause. Sometimes it's just Rogers working on their network. Do a line quality test and a ping test, put the gateway in Bridge mode and see how it performs. Sooner or later you'll track the issue down. If it's only once a week I wouldn't give it much thought. To me, that's a Rogers network issue. Wouldn't hurt to check all your cables/connections either.
Just thinking: Could be an overheating issue. That will cause a shutdown/reboot. Reposition/elevate the Gateway. Make sure it has good ventilation.....
