Re: New patch Likes/Dislikes actually considering that you have fewer choices to pick, one pick out of three options. would seem to me that you have LESS choices so more people with have the same builds. I hate this mindset. It only seems to be true. If you knew what you were doing before, there were only 3 or 4 discretionary talent choices per spec per class (and they weren't equal choices... they were heavily dependent upon your raiding format and composition). That's it. If you truly believe there were more options, you were not only a casual player, you were a casual player just playing an expensive version of farmville.
I'm not saying you have to like it. But identify a real reason... like you don't like the actual options in a given tier, or you hate that one of your favorite spells was removed and there is no suitable replacement (by your estimation).

 | reply to kingdome74 Oh man... I didn't even try to dance in venison mode!! I like the glyph that makes you mountable, but I really wish the speed were greater than 40%. That run speed is just too slow to be practical (short of for visual amusement).
I mean, our bird form is instant cast and it matches your trained flight speed.

 | reply to Immer ah but Immer, you are making an assuption that the person is raiding so is forced by guild standards into a cookie cutter build, I am also willing to bet that exact same thing will happen now, less choices, and being forced into same builds.
I am a non-raider, I love being unique, yes i will make a build that isnt the "norm" just to be different.
I stand by my statement.
ps: no i dont take offense to a discussion, i respect your input |

GhastlyonePremium join:2009-01-07 Las Vegas, NV kudos:2 | reply to StumpMan I messed around with some Warlock builds this morning.
I just get where Blizzard is going with this.
Basically the choices for an Affliction Lock were, do I want this damage reduction ability? Or do I want this other damage reduction ability with a different style CD? Or do I want this self healing ability instead?
Absolutely no DPS style talents at all. Everything was damage reduction, self healing, etc. |

 | I know right. I love the changes. I can actually choose utility base spells without worrying that I am gimping my damage by not taking a certain talent. Its great |

DarkLogixTexan and ProudPremium join:2008-10-23 Baytown, TX kudos:3 | reply to Jodokast Naw the options you have are largely meaningless.
so fewer options and the difference from best to worst option in a tier is small most of the time.
For instance Cauterize vs Cold snap
I haven't seen how fast ultra will die yet but its possible cold snap might get you 3 iceblocks
With Cauterize you might also be able to do 3
(I'd have to look at the time spacing between HoTs)
But with in the past hitting 6HoT's I figure the following
hit Iceblock on 1st, then on clicking off the buff hit cold snap (speaking of which can you macro a buff removal?) then hit Iceblock on the 2nd
Cold Snap has a 3min Cd (vs the 5min of Iceblock) so I'm not sure if cold snap would be up in time for the 6th. |

 | reply to Ghastlyone Ya, my warlock has been my main toon since start of game, but I just dont love him anymore :-( this patch has put my warlock probably at the bottom of the list. I tried each of my 85's and the one class that shined and i had the most fun was my Elem Shaman! so with only one day of playing as of now, most likely my elem sham will be my new main. |

And as the guild is skipping this week on raiding I'll have to find a DS run to really test the new stuff. |

stvnbrsPremium join:2009-03-17 Cary, NC kudos:5 | reply to StumpMan I think I know what the issue for me is. I have been playing this game for many years, and after this last patch, the characters that I have mainly played and experienced the game with no longer have the personal feel to them. They have changed. My druid is no longer the same as he was when working towards getting the epic flight form. His role has changed and the personal connection that made me enjoy playing my main is gone. Perhaps this is more burn out than anything or just too many toons at max level but it just doesn't feel the same anymore. -- Goggalor: "Freedom of speech is not freedom of asshattery." |

On the rebuttal, I actually hate this mindset. Not every one is or wants to be the elite raiding king of all kings.
Way back when(back when you could spec any tree at any time), I had a blast trying out new Hybrid specs and I found some great ones that were the most fun I have had playing this game. Whether it be PvP or PvE.
It's not about hardcore raiding for many of us and it's not about blasting thru an instance in record time either. It's about having fun. Fun is different to many people. What was fun to me(and many of the people I run with) was being different and trying different ways to play. This patch(along with the Cata patch that restricted points to one tree till filled) put everyone into a super cookie cutter mode and I despise that.
Restricting choice IMO is never a good thing. |

I took a 6 month break and came back yesterday and it feels like a new AND different game. It's not the game I played in vanilla when flying from one point to another was an exercise in patience. Or all the cool new dungeons and raids in BC but since Wrath I've felt that the game I play is with more detachment than familial which explains why I took a 6 month break after Wrath too. -- If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans - Woody Allen

Fun is different to many people. What was fun to me(and many of the people I run with) was being different and trying different ways to play. This x100. I'm in a family/friends guild that raids very rarely, but we're good for the occasional heroic dungeon. (Scenarios will probably suit us very well.) We're not going for world or server firsts; we're not going for progression raiding. We're looking to occasionally get together on weekends and play some group content for a few hours once the kids are asleep. My brother-in-law Mike and I are the two most "optimal" players, in that we spend the time looking up all the min/max info, optimal reforges/enchants/gems, et cetera. Most of the other people in the guild are more casual. My wife, for instance - she has a L85 hunter that she has hardly played since she hit max level. She has told me before, "the hunter is level 85, she feels done to me, I'd rather level my mage". She enjoys questing, and professions, much more than dungeons/raids. My sister-in-law is similar - she loves questing, and actually takes the time to READ EACH QUEST as if it were a novel. She's quite into the story aspect of WoW, and would probably be really happy on a RP server. Another guy is an alt-o-holic, and spreads his attention between too many toons to ever have one that's truly elite. For people like that, the "new system" is going to be fantastic. For people like me and my brother-in-law... I'll feel a little bit less involved in my character being awesome at his role. However, in our guild dungeon runs, I'll still be topping the DPS charts, Mike will still be tanking like a boss in bear form, everyone else will be having a blast as we clear content. I don't see a problem. ... I got on last night, spent some time on my main (hunter). Updated addons, reset game preferences. Switched his specs from MM/SV to BM/SV. Tried out a bunch of the different new talents, put in some of the new glyphs, spent some time attacking the target dummies in SW. Spent some time looking up new stat priorities. Spent some gold reforging for 7.5% expertise. Spent some time cursing the insane lag. I can't say it was a barrel of laughs, but as everyone gets used to the changes, and the servers aren't getting hammered quite as hard, it should be great fun. |
