Re: Cookware recommandation

I remembered seeing an episode of America's Test Kitchen where they reviewed non-stick fry pans. Here's a brief article from them:

Here's their review: »www.americastestkitchen.com/equi···id=25947
If you are a member, you'll see everything. If not, click the small "more" link and you'll still see a lot of information about coatings, etc.

And finally, since you're interested in smaller pans and it's difficult to find the "Profession Total" line that ATK liked so much, here's a link to Amazon for the 12.5" pan that contains this info from T-Fal about the line of cookware (from a customer comment): »www.amazon.com/T-fal-B000GWG0T2-···00GWG0T2

========================================

We received your e-mail via T-falUSA.com, and we thank you for your interest in our products.

T-Fal products are available at many national retail stores. The T-Fal Professional Total Non stick cookware that has been reviewed in Cooks Illustrated and Consumer Report is currently available at Kohl's, Meijer and Shopko as well as their on-line retail web sites. You may also find this item through on line retailers such as amazon.com

Note: Our inventory levels have been low as a result of these reviews. However we do have shipments coming in regularly. With this in mind, retailers may be temporarily out of stock. If possible, you may want to consider per-ordering.

The T-Fal part numbers for this cookware will begin with either E938, E939 or E987.

The cookware has stainless steel base and can be used on all cook tops including an induction cook top

The cookware is available as either a 10 piece set or as individual fry pans in 8", 10.25" or 12.5" sizes.

Please be advised that some retailers may not use the T-Fal part numbers to identify this product but they will use its name. Additionally, we suggest contacting your local retailer for on hand inventory since each store determines their own inventory levels.

If you have additional questions, please call 1-800-395-8325 and provide the consumer service agent with reference number 110228-000256. Representatives are available from 8:30am to 5:30pm EST, Monday thru Friday.

Sincerely,
T-fal Consumer Service

If I'm not mistaken, the T-Fal cookware requires an initial seasoning. (Once and done, as they say.)

I'm not too worried about it. Most of the reviews online I found were actually positive. However, I already know their commercials are greatly exaggerated. They are $20 at Walgreens. I say it's worth a shot. Can't be any worse than the crappy T-Fal pans we have where the Teflon is peeling off.

As a character on The Big Bang Theory pointed out, "Wine, credit cards and late night television are a bad combination."

After reviewing the info from ATK late last night (that I posted above), I found that shopco.com has the 12.5" T-Fal pan on sale for $20, so I ordered one. I'm not a fan of T-Fal, but I'm curious to see if the ATK review pans out.

We've had real good luck with Calphalon cookware. The hard-anodized stuff is top notch and will last a long long time if you take care of it. The only drawback is they are NOT dishwasher safe but the non stick coating works so well we find cleanup is always quick and easy. We normally buy them on Amazon but have since found a factory outlet store within an hours drive that has much better pricing.

The problem I have with my frying pan preference is they're not safe from dishwashers... they keep frigging washing them... LEAVE MY FRYING PAN ALONE... I get it really nicely seasoned... and then someone will go and scrub it... with soap... and even SOS pads "Well I thought it could do with it" NO NO NO NO!!!!

While not non-stick, we have never had a problem with any of our all-clad.

... I like cast iron, but my wife hates it. Hopefully I can get her to come around, it only took me 15 years to talk her into switching from cooking on electric to gas.

She probably objects to the weight. We use cast iron, but generally only for shallow-frying.
