I'm currently running KDE4 on F17 and don't like it @ all - though I've never been a KDE fan and wish for the days of GNOME 2 to return...

But alas, maybe I should give Gnome 3 shell in Mint a spin

If you are missing Gnome2 try XFCE, it does take a little getting used to Gnome3 and Unity but well worth the effort.
