slower speeds

I live in South Western Quebec and have been using the new Xplornet Satellite - I was on the old one for about 5 years. In the last week or so my Rx SNR has dropped to roughly 6dB with a cable attenuation of 5.2 dB. I am in the overlap between beam 7 and 8. They are sending a technician to adjust dish. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: slower speeds - Dish Alignment / Beam Designations

The dish is spec'd at around 45mph winds per Viasat. Mine is in a somewhat sheltered location and I haven't had any misalignment problem yet.
BTW... these beam numbers must be internal numbers used by xplornet because '»www.satbeams.com' uses different beam designations. I'm trying to find some corelation between the two identification schemes.

Does the Rx SNR number vary a lot. We had the same weather over the weekend and mine was at around 6.0 dB. Now it is as 8.4 dB. My download/upload speeds over the weekend were 0.18 Mb/s down and 0.16 up. On average it has been 1.84 down and 0.36 up.

Ask xPlornet to 're-register your Surfbeam modem. The modem can occasionally go into basic install mode which provides only a slow connection to let the installer register it to your speed package.

Re: slower speeds - Dish Alignment / Beam Designations - SNR

Speed drops off when the SNR drops to around 6.5 or lower. My SNR is almost always over 10. Cloud cover is usually not a problem with reception. My SNR is currently 8.6 with some heavy weather coming in from west and my speeds are still close to package speeds (3Mbps/500Kbps).

Still getting .7- 2.2Mbps today with heavy overcast and SNR down at 4.4 dB.
