 | WOW Pricing I have been a WOW customer for a total of 10 years, with short stints with Comcast and AT&T. Recently my discount pricing expired. I called the retention department, and they restored the pricing on one of my accounts, but becasue my other account only has internet and cable service, they would only give $5 off the monthly bill. I have never had this happen before. WOW has always been willing to keep their customers happy. What happened? Because this has happened, I am planning to part ways with them and go back to Uverse. Am I wrong for doing so? Seems that Uverse has more HD channels and some channels that Ultra TV does not offer, such as TV One, NFL Network. Uverse pricing is about $9 more. What do you think? |
|
 | I think alot of people are ridiculous thinking that they should get discounts all the time just because you have been a part time customer for 10 years or whatever reason they can sit back and think of. Maybe if you had problems and always have techs at your house then yes, but if your getting the service you are paying for then no.
I say leave and go back to your att or comcast, but in the end you will most likely be back. |
|
 | reply to coastman49 Well, Uverse kept saying they were available in our area but, have never been able to get it to work. When I see a tech truck out I suggest that they have someone come and verify signal strength. They usually end up leaving right after that. haven't seen any around lately. I never liked dealing with Comcast. My Mom had them in Canton, MI and nothing but trouble. Wervice had their issues also. I know others in Canton that haven't had any issues so??? With Ceton and other options coming, next year could be a whole new ballgame! |

| reply to coastman49 UVerse pricing will jump exponentially after the promo period ends. I got bill shock the month after my promo expired; dumped TV service and dropped internet speed tier immediately.
Just a word of warning. Plus you'll be going to a capped ISP. |

 | Did they ever get around to actually implementing their cap? I had them for about 10 months (got rid of them the second WOW's wideband services became available) and about 5-6 of those months were supposed to be capped but they couldn't even figure out how to separate out internet traffic vs. TV/phone usage (all bandwidth is shared with U-verse which is the biggest reason I left) so the cap never went into effect. |

 | reply to coastman49 It's really disappointing that these cable providers have to have so much difference in their prices for new customers, old customers, etc.
It seems to me that they would offer a 1 time (switch to us and save) discount period. After that expires, everybody should more or less be on the same plan and paying the same price. Obviously if you have more or bundle a few extra things, you might get a slight discount on the bundle...but the price for the bundle should be the same from customer 1 to customer 2..IMHO.
it just doesn't seem right that I should pay $145 a month, while someobdy else getting the same thing pays $95 a month because they called and complained, and threatened to cancel.
As far as Uverse goes, they called my wife and tried to talk her into switching. They claimed to be able to save us tons of money. They called back when I was home and I went over everything with them and by time they got my internet speeds up to the same level, and got my same pay channels on the account, my enormous savings dwindled to less than $5 a month. Plus, they wanted a 1 year committment and also claimed that all of my email (currently something@wowway.com) would CONTINUE to work no problems after switching over to Uverse and that I didn't have to change anything. I explained to them that it wasn't enough savings and I wasn't going to go through the hassle for such a small difference and she actually HUNG up on me. She was seriously pissed after spending all that time, that I didn't switch over. Even though I told her up front, that I didn't want to switch and it would take quite an enormous savings to switch. |

I'd be very surprised if any WOW customer is getting close to $50/month in discounts. I was getting a pretty decent discount and they cut it back despite my protests. If I add in the free equipment it is a good discount but not $50.
And yes you do have to call. Maybe not actually complain but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It's the American way. |

Businesses offering long term customers perks is not uncommon, and makes good business sense. It is a lot cheaper to keep a customer than it is to replace them with a new one, especially in a tough economy. |
|
 | reply to coastman49 I understand businesses wanting to retain customers, it just seems like a royal PITA to have to call, complain, threaten to cancel and then do it all over again when your promo period ends. But who wants to pay $10 or $15 or $20 more a month to get the same thing your neighbor gets for less $$$$. Why not just keep everybody on the same low price option and keep everyone happy?
Or perhaps we need install fees like balance transfer fees to credit cards. If you really do want to switch from WOW to Comcast to save $20 a month, be prepared to pay the $100 install fee to move to Comcast. |
|
 | reply to petty Thanks for your wonderful insight. |
|
 | reply to pparks1 I am not switching. At least WOW gets your bill right month after month, which is more than I can say for Comcast or AT&T. But you are right, you shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get a decent price and service. |

But there's no crime in asking, "Can I get a cheaper price?" It's not immoral, it's not criminal, it's just plain business. And as with anything, the answer is always NO if you don't ask. So ask. At least then you have a *chance* of getting a better price.
Tell us all, why should we just sit back and accept the first deal that's offered? EVERYTHING in life is negotiable--and like I said, it's not criminal or even immoral or even uncivilized to ask for a lower price.
It seems to me that those who have personal problems with feeling uncomfortable sticking up for their own rights, want the rest of the world to suffer along with them. So what if you feel uncomfortable with even the slightest "confrontation"? So what if you feel uncomfortable asking people for something that will benefit you? Does that mean that no one else in the world should be allowed to do so?
No matter where you go, ask if there is a better deal to be had. Maybe the answer is no, but maybe the answer is yes. However, if you don't ask I guarantee the answer is no. |

Re: WOW Pricing home/auto insurance and cable are two companies that raise rates the longer you're with them.
I would think if I was a good paying customer for 5+ years and never missed or had a late bill, I should get rewards... but they think otherwise.
See... they know the longer you're with a company, the harder it is to change companies. Who wants to give out their email addres.. use it for five+ years.. then have to change emails and tell everyone the new address plus change it on all the websites they go to? Or you got used to the channel guide being one way and don't want to change by switching companies.
My wife got pissed at me when I wanted to change from Insight to WOW. Been with Insight for 10 years and their pricing just got higher and higher without any discounts. Finally I told my wife I had enough and she was willing to pay the extra price to keep her email address the same and the channels the way they were. I told her no.. we faught about it a little bit.. in the end I won. We changed and it took about a month before she would talk to me again lol.
And making that call to Insight to disconnect was classic. The rep saw that I was with them for 10 years.. and never offered to keep me with them. She just told me ok and thanks for the business and that was it.
Vonage on the other hand.. wow when I called to cancel with them (my wife and I both got cell phones and didn't need a home line anymore)... they offered up so much crap it was amazing. First they offered up their unlimited plan for $9.99 for an entire year. I said no. They then said they would add totally FREE service for three months on top of the $9.99 plan. Told them I didn't want to have to call back in three months to cancel again. She then asked me what would it take to keep me as a subscriber.. I told her for Vonage to pay my new cell phone bill LOL. She then gave up and disconnected me |

| I disagree with the home/auto insurance bit. Mine has gone down, actually.
As for cable companies and the "who wants to change his email address" argument, I'd think that everyone by now has faced that realization and has made the change to a non-ISP email address in order to gain the flexibility of NOT being tied to that crap.
The world has changed since email was new, and the technology and the services and the customers have all matured. Anyone who's using his same old same old cable ISP because of the email address thing is in the serious minority.
Please tell me you didn't move her to a WOW email address. Please tell us that she's on gmail or hotmail or something...
I've had experiences like yours, where the existing vendor showed no interest in keeping me and my reliable payments coming in. I shrugged and wondered about the insanity of the world, and moved on.
My brother got tired of Vonage increasing in price, and he recently moved to another provider. I'll have to ask him what happened if/when he called Vonage to cancel after the number ported over.
It's not a crime to ask for a lower price, scared people of the world notwithstanding. |

 | reply to coastman49 My neighbor recently called in to ask for a discount and they gave her 10 dollars for 12 months off her bill. |

 | reply to coastman49 Threaten to leave and get a decent deal. Hang up and try again if they give you a bad deal. |
