| HTS Performance/Speed Testing and Troubleshooting Procedure The true test of my connection is how my actual apps are running like Facebook, YouTube, email etc. because performance is determined not only by my ISP but also the ISP at the other end of the 'pipe'....slow in, slow out. If these apps are all sluggish, then I look at my speed monitors troubleshoot the issue. I normally see good YouTube buffering and no pauses with my 3Mbps HTS connection. I use Testmy.net because it lets me compare to other xPlornet HTS user experience. I also use Jack Dinn's tester to correlate results with different servers. My troubleshooting procedure: 1. Check modem SNR. If under 6.5 and bad weather, then wait for weather to clear. 2. Resolve any PC performance issue - hard drive 'thrashing', defrag etc. 3. Reboot Viasat 'Surfbeam 2' modem. 4. Reboot TP-Link WR1043ND router (or other/if used). 5. Call xPlornet support. Request modem 're-registration.
I encourage all rural high speed users to get a free '»wwwTestmy.net' account to assist with troubleshooting connections and comparing technologies. |
