What I can say, my first gen only see the 2.4 ghz range. That is problematic as all devices on the same band must default to the lowest common compatible setting. So if there is an old phone or device that would be the max speed you will get.

Strange. We have dual band Airport Extremes here and the iPads see and connect to the 5ghz ssid w/no issues.
