Re: GW2:Warrior Thread

i rolled a human male, but the Norn look pretty badass with a nice heavy armor set.

Yar I agree. I think all the warrior/guardians that had me stop and gawk were norn male warriors. They run like boulders rolling backwards though, so slow, so I compromised and made a female norn, so beautiful ^_^

I first made her the shortest possible then felt like she was too short, then made her the tallest possible... now she's a freaking giant when I went to the human question zone, like 30% taller than NPCs there. An asura comes up to my thigh. Since she's blond I keep comparing her to Brigette Nielsen when I first saw her in Beverly Hills Cop 2 (really dating myself) XD

Yar, but she is a red head there, and didn't seem so epic tall in that movie.

My new Brigette Nielsen warrior is doing well, hit 21 last night. I do like her look more. Norn female seems to run faster than norn males, and no molasses loping animation of the charr. I did feel kind of bad when I went on my charr warrior to spend his karma on food ingredient vendors to get ready to delete him, he is a handsome fella.

So far I am leveling cooking (I love cooking, so fun and useful) and armorsmithing for my warrior. My amazon 8 feet tall woman making a pie and forcing people to eat it

Right now every 5 levels I make a whole new set of armor for her then buy new weapons (I love dual axes, although later traits for great sword seems to good to ignore) and runes/sigils off the TP. Seems to be working well. Seems to be enough to level 25 points of crafting as well, so if this keeps up, I would hit 375 as I hit level 80.

BTW I know I can get the jotun greatsword skin off a karma heart vendor in Snowden area, but are there other low level great skins? Maybe I can buy a charr greatsword off the TP.

Also at the end level, if I don't plan on forging my legendaries or run dungeons or PvP (I'm just a pve kind of casual player), am I doomed to sucky skins? Last night an elementalist dropped a conjured fiery greatsword and I would *love* that.

You can buy any high-end armor or weapon and transmute them into armors/weapons or you level.

I didn't notice a lot of choice while leveling though. Looking at karma vendor seems the best way of getting different looks during levling process.

My warrior princess just hit 40 last night. Highest alt I have since she is so easy mode (well, at least buy her dinner!)

For anyone starting a new warrior, the easiest leveling spec is the signet crit build. Basically you go 10 points into arms to get the "Deep Strike" trait (Gain +40 precision for each unused signet you have equipped) and put signets (dolyak, fury, might, rage, mending) in all your slots. At low levels this amount of precision = ridiculous amounts of crit chance, so you just mow down any mobs you reach.

After these first 10 trait points, what I am planning on doing is:

•10 points into tactics for "Empowered Allies", you get that 70 power as well. Only shows up in combat though. The vitality is nice so I'm not so fragile.
•5 points into defense for "Thick Skin" (100 toughness when life is over 90%", then 15 points for "Adrenal Health" (regen based on your adrenaline) later.
•10 points into strength for 12% more damage on 3 bars of adrenaline.
•10 points into Discipline for Heightened Focus, 9% more crit% on full adrenaline (my crit % is already falling off from the high 90s in level 20 to 60? in level 40 due to diminishing returns of 40 precision points per signet).

I personally run "For Greater Justice" in place of the might signet. You get about the same power but also 8 sec of 20% crit, and good to support groups in DEs (although usually there's a few other warriors shouting the same thing).

Be warned though that there is hate on the forums for this noob build because it is selfish and dies too easily in dungeons (which I don't do), so use something else more sturdy and support in groups I guess.

I use dual axes, although eventually the traits that give you might stacks on greatsword crit and 10% more damage on greatsword will probably force me to go that way. I like axes more because the #5 skill is a true 360 degree AOE. Greatswords do look much better though, I haven't seen any axe models that I like (I want a fiery axe with trailing flames, dammit)

Keep your gear up to date. I used to make my own gear but ran out of iron so now I just buy a new set every 5/10 levels. Weapons I just upgrade every 5. Probably overkill tbh, leveling so fast. I also rune for more vitality/toughness, not just power/crit, so I don't eat dirt much at all.

Finally, another reason why I love the warrior is the swiftness she has. On my weapon swap is the warhorn, so you can have 10 seconds of swiftness out of 20 seconds. Once you get the signet of rage, that gives you 30 seconds (60s CD). You can press SoR and get the 30 secs then blow warhorn right away, the durations stack (so now you have 40s). 20 seconds later you can blow warhorn again, repeat then hit SoR again. Truly amazing for exploring the map.

So right now I'm running with Greatsword build:

+10% GS damage
-20% GS skill CD
+12% damage on full rage bar
GS crit applies vulnerability
33% on crit to apply bleed
33% on crit to apply vulnerability
+30% Boon duration
-20% shout CD
Shouts heal

freakin beast. Vitality tree gives more life, more regen, and more DPS. I can't see any reason to go down the toughness tree.

slight overlap with 33% crit applies vulnerability. But I keep this because I switch to dual axes during events. where axes 5 does spin to win, which registers more hits when many mobs, resulting in more drops, and its not rooted like GS HB.

GS > axes for champion and veteran mobs however, for dps with HB

using/spamming shouts to apply boons and heal to teammates, i use very few signets

Alright, so I found engineer not quite to my play style (mostly due to being somewhat of a glass cannon), so I made a warrior (Norn, level 25 so far).

Is there any suggested trait lines I should go down? I've spent 10 on tactics and got Empowered, 5 on Defence for Thick Skin (which seems cool with healing Signet's regen).

Using Greatsword because of sheer power and AOE, with a longbow offhand because it has it's uses. Using Signet of Might, Signet of Fury and "For Great Justice!".

To be honest, I haven't tried many combinations for weapons, Greatsword seems to be packing enough punch by itself right now (Hundred Blades is AMAZING and I enjoy whirlwind strike because it allows me to control battles a bit).

Also, wheres the nearest place I can reset my traits from Wayfarer Foothills? I want to look at all the adept Trait slots. (not so much a warrior question, but while I'm posting, might as well ask :P).

If you look 5 posts above you, I posted that a signet based build is really your easiest bet for leveling. I used it all the way upto 50ish, just mows mobs down. Runs out of steam near 50ish since 40 precision/signet doesn't count as much, and you need more condition removal when you start to fight the Risen.

Not sure where the closest trainer is in Wayfarer Foothills, but since I upgrade my gear every 5 levels, I usually just port to Lions Arch and you can retrait there, near all the profession trainers.

In case you did not know, you can change your traits at anytime (like I -> III or something) out of combat, you just need a trainer to reset points. Also, to reset points it is just a minimal cost, you do not need to buy a manual to do so.

Edit: BTW once you get to 30, get the Signet of Rage for your elite no matter what build you use, it is really the best overall elite. I carry a warhorn, and you can use the warhorn #4 and that signet to get pretty much permanent swiftness, awesome for leveling. Since swiftness stacks in duration, you do not need to wait for your buff to wear off before using the warhorn again, it just adds to your current swiftness boon's timer.

Yeah, I ended up going to Lion's Arch myself after posting and resetting it there. I'm slowly getting the hang of the giant map :P
I hit 30 last night and got signet of Rage because of the speed boost (and other boosted stats).

I'll be trying this signet crit build for a while, it sounds pretty hax.

My warrior is level 46 now, I've been playing on and off (and also testing a few new characters), trying to just get those levels.

I still crit a lot with the signet build which allows me to clean up enemies as I explore the map (rage signet/warhorn for speed boosts).

This signet build tons tons of damage, and with reduced incoming damage at 90%+ HP along with regen from the healing signet... Its pretty easy to take on mobs several levels higher than yourself so long as you don't just sit there.
Greatsword seems very versitile to that end also,
1 has enough aoe to be useful
2 has big damage and aoe.
3 has a surprising amount of damage and can allow you to dodge blows in combat easily.
4 is great to use after 3, it has enough range to hit what you want in mid combat and cripples them, allowing a bit more time for regen to make you healthy again.
5 allows you to rush back in to combat, doing a reasonable amount of damage.
Not a big fan of greatsword's F1 attack, but then again, there is a trait that gives a 12% damage buff if you don't use F1, so yeah.

Also, I tried my first WvWvW yesterday, so much fun! I was on my ranger, didn't know what to do so I mostly just followed the pack. I'll probably try it on my warrior tonight. Longbow would be best for WvWvW, right?

For WvW you really need to think about what role you want to play.

I either run Axes/Rifle or GS/Bow

or some melee/ranged combo

if you want to focus on a single target kill build then I would run something like GS/Rifle, where Rifle gives great single target damage

if you want to help your group out in massive group vs. group encounters then I would go with BOW where you can lay down combo fields for everyone to use and benefit from

rifle for single target, bow for combo fields and massive encounters

Yar the greatsword F1 is kind of bogus, I don't think it's worth the 12% lost dmg to get the fury boon.

You should be running into the Risen more now, so you will probably have to lose a signet to pick up "Shake it off" shout. Sometimes I even use the heal that removes conditions, making the +precision/signet trait kind of meh, but not much else is better. Stacking vulnerability when soloing is kind of blah.

/agreed

I never use F1 on GS

rather have +12% damage up at all times

highest crit on hundred blades reached 18k in an event last night

Thanks for the info

I'll probably be staying in the group til I get used to pvp, thats why I was thinking longbow (for the AoE), I haven't really tested rifle out that much on warrior. I'm going to have to try it out later to see what kind of damage output it has.

Bow is probably better for attacking keeps(castles) as well

I think if you spec into it, warrior bow gets greater range

you can toss up some Bow aoe on keep walls and burn those F-ers trying to guard it on top

OK here I construct TheThing's build based on his description.

Strength: 20
- Berserker's Power: Increases damage based adrenaline stage. 3/7/12%
- Slashing Power: Greatsword and spear damage is increased by 10%.

Arms: 20
- Rending Strikes: 33% chance to cause vulnerability on critical hits.
- Forceful Greatsword: Gain might on critical hit with a greatsword or spear. Greatsword and spear skill [sic] recharge 20% faster.

Tactics: 30
- I couldn't guess what the adept trait you took for Tactics. I guess either Empower Allies (Increases power of nearby allies by 70 points) or Empowered (Increases damage for every boon on you) would be what I'd pick, both kind of sucky but better than the others I see there.
- Lung Capacity: Shouts recharge 20% faster.
- Vigorous Shouts: Shouts heal.

I assume you have 3 shouts on your utility bar? For great justice, Shake it off, and maybe On my mark?
