THRobinson posted : Damn... gotta return this router. Bought the Trendnet TEW-731BR.

2 computers upstairs, directly above the router, were getting a full 5 bars with the old Linksys, switched to this modem and now barely getting 2 bars.

Trying to find how many db the Linksys was, this Trendnet is 2x2db. Odd part is, specs I am reading show the Linksys range at around 100 feet and the Trendnet at about 330 feet... so bit confused. :S

THRobinson posted : Luckily for the 2 desktops the kids have I bought (a week ago) a pair of USB Wireless N adapters which work perfectly. Other 2 systems are wired in. Laptop is older and only used for facebook/msn so not too worried about that.

If I can get something simple/basic and N for under $20 I think I'll go for it. If it were for a business or LAN parties I'd spend more but, for home users, I just want to make sure we can all surf at the same time.

I understand if someone setup a download and it's running full tilt at 500kbps we'd all be affected... but when I can't load Google.ca because someone has a download running at 20kbps... something isn't right.

That being said, I think I'll go around and setup uTorrent on the other systems to cap the upload speeds since that may be an issue as well. They tell me it's running at 25kbps but, could be maxing out the U/L speed which would cause issues as well.

I think I'll go for the newer non-refurbished TrendNet N300 TEW-731BR for $20. Some good reviews, 54% off not bad, and I suspect if I get into stuff like dual-bands I'd have to spend more time figuring out how to make it work. :D

Johkal posted : "N" is the way to go. I just didn't know what you wanted to spend. You can go inexpensive with a basic "N" or swing for a simultaneous dual band "N" where you will have separate networks on the same router using the 2.4 GHz & 5GHz bands.
Even though any "N" capable router is backwards compatible with your "B" adapters, you may only see less bog; no speed increase. Keep in mind that your adapters for each device must be "N" capable or you will be replacing them as well to enjoy those speeds.
