Excellent. This means we will get the iphone in time so start camping outside the stores now!!!! More: » www.shanghaidaily.com/ar ··· d=511136THOUSANDS of students in an east China city are being forced to work at a Foxconn plant after classes were suspended at the beginning of the new semester, it has been revealed. Students from Huai'an in Jiangsu Province were driven to a factory in the city run by Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Company after the plant couldn't find sufficient workers for the production of Apple's much-anticipated iPhone 5, they said in online posts. A student majoring in computing at the Huaiyin Institute of Technology said 200 students from her school had been driven to the factory. They started work on the production line last Thursday and were being paid 1,550 yuan (US$243.97) a month for working six days a week, she said. But they had to pay hundreds of yuan for food and accommodation, she said in an online post under the name of mengniuIQ84. Several other students from at least five colleges backed up what she said, saying they were being forced to work for 12 hours a day. |

To be fair it's not directly Apple. It's their biggest supplier Foxxcon. But Apple is partly to be blamed for not keeping watch on their biggest supplier. It's normal in the manufacturing industry to monitor the working conditions at your partners plants. Foxxcon has a history of this. Remember the suicides and the contracts forbidding people from killing themselves? Apple reduces the business with Samsung due to the lawsuits, but continues to grow it's business with Foxxcon » news.cnet.com/8301-13579 ··· w-plant/ |

Apple has bazillions... Why don't they build their own factory, their own fab plant? 100 billion in cash buys a lot... |
|
|
they have bazillions because they outsource...what ever they're doing...they're doing right and they shouldn't change a thing |

Building a factory doesn't make sense, but they should look at how the auto industry manages their suppliers in asia. It's very systematic. They have random visits to their suppliers (suppliers only find out on the morning of). Even if the supplier isn't exclusively doing your products, they still get to dictate working conditions and safety standards.. Or they lose their contract. Ofcourse the working conditions are a lot harsher for the auto industry but I don't see why Apple can't keep a team in China that monitors Foxxcon. Chinese kids are being pulled out of school to work on the iphone. There is no way Apple doesn't know about this. But i'm sure their PR team is going to spread the same bullshit lies like they always do. |

The article says 'students' not 'children'. The NY Times article linked in your link suggests the students are young adults. |

I assumed students were young from this line in the article As Lindstrom concluded, you love your iPhone and if JP Morgan Chase is right, eight million of you wont let a little thing like costing 32,000 Chinese students their education keep you from spending $600 to smear your fingerprints all over your loved ones glass screen. |
