Re: Georgia ETA..??

Quoted from the message I just got in the direct forum, evidently my ETR 6 months was not long enough for my last ticket to be fixed so It looks like I will still be getting crappy connections for this years Christmas present also. Two years in a row, thanks Windstream you sure do treat your paying customers with the best service possible (Sarcasm)

"We got word from the engineers that they had come across an issue and some changes had to be made to the project which has set us back. The ETR has been pushed to 1/30/13."

You're one of lucky ones with an actual dated ETR. My ETR is 2013, no month or day...just possibly, maybe in 2013. Isn't that fantastic customer service! I just don't see how they can stay in business much longer with this type of utter disrespect shown to customers.

It is not really a ETR, its just a fictional date they like to change on whim just to keep me from calling everyday. My 1st ETR was January of 2011 and then July of 2011 and then January of 2012,June 2012,December of 2012 and now end of January 2013. I completely expect it to be a month to month thing if I were to stay a customer, but I don't see me doing that past the 1st of the year. I got my 1st 4GLTE signal yesterday 18MBPS down and 4MBPS up. I can foresee me finding a way to adhere to 10GBS a month usage.

Home phone for 10 dollars a month and I keep my number and it uses my 1000mins I get already. I save 50-60 dollars a month and get a better connection.

talked with a local tech today, he said windstream isn't planning on repairing service in our area of GA till July 2013..

the structure of Windstream is really something to be admired, from a distance.. very far distance..No one seems to be accountable for anything at windstream.. i'm told different stories by each level of employee that works with windstream. nothing windstream could do now to surprise me. I can't understand how this company even stays in business..

Once you get your foot in, it's nearly impossible for another company to oust a telecom, especially in rural areas. The cost is just too high, and the ROI too low.

We can't just hope they'll fail because of this, in reality it's inflating their worth by a ton, keeping costs down and still billing us all.

Hopefully for some of us cellphone broadband will eclipse WS's excuse for broadband and when it starts hitting the pocket book for more than 10 dollars a month and they start losing the phone and internet (80 dollars) a month the shareholders will start asking questions.

Windstream had the nerve to send me a survey for how they were doing. Who ever got the pleasure of reading it probably wished they had not sent it.

Wireless will always suffer from the latency issues it currently has, because of the nature or physics and distance. If all you do is browse the web and watch netflix, sure you'll be fine. Most of the rest of us are screwed, and it won't get better.

Been testing Verizon's 4GLTE (home fusion) for about 5 days now, lowest speed was 5.9MBPS and max was 33.0MBPS and upload of 3.2 upload. Talking with people in game they say they have no lag, pings of 30-100ms never over that. This is starting to look like a viable option for me.

Is anyone betting the farm on the 12-30 resolution date?

Meedlies

@windstream.net

I have made my calls to support. Filed with the BBB. Gotten my bill credits. There isn't much more I can do. I do not expect 12-30 to be any sort of fix. I must say that last night the service was marginally better in Blairsville GA.

Side note: I couldn't even pay for a pizza because the credit card machine at the pizza place was down due to Windstream.

I've also been dealing with slow service/no service in Milledgeville, since spring 2012. I do not expect better service so am looking at charter as an option. Do you know of anyone who has any experience with Charter dsl? tnx

Proxi

Charter does not offer DSL, djacks01..they do cable. I know some people who use Charter cable Internet and I have not heard any major complaints from them. Also, Charter offers faster speeds than Windstream. You are lucky you have Charter as an option. Charter has not run any coax to my neighborhood.

As a note, I was told that the issue in my area maybe resolved in the 2nd quarter of 2013. That would be a year of me dealing with Windstream's crappy connection! I'm not confident they will get my issue resolved by the given time frame. They have given me ETRs in the past and each time the date rolled around they would give me another estimated time repair.

I wish Windstream would have been proactive about bandwidth utilization in my area but I guess their greed got the best of them. They still continue to sell Internet services to new customers in my area. It's pathetic...

We went through this (speed drop each afternoon/night) in the Spring and Summer, 2012. Had 4 techs out, two new modems - Sagem 1704 and many many calls. Issues were finally - I thought - resolved in August or September. Now it's BACK! Every afternoon! Speed drops to almost zero EVERY day. I haven't even bothered to call this time around - know that I will just get some bs from the csr, the techs will try but I think that they know that they cannot solve the problem and will make a good guess about the etr. I would appreciate some honesty - just a simple truthful answer about what is going on and IF it will ever be resolved. thanks much for your input.

Re: Georgia ETA..??

said by Windstream:

Speedtest.net is not a accurate way to test anyone's speeds. They have to much flash on their site and the "servers" that run the tests are actually random peoples computers all over the nation that have downloaded software so people can run speed test through their from them. There is very little uniformity, if any, and there is no way to guarantee accuracy. I personally do not trust pingtest.net or speedtest.net, my understanding is that many people that work with computers on a regular basis do not use them either. If you do not want to use Windstreams speedtest website please run the speed test from speakeasy.net or some other competitors speed test program. Speakeasy is a competitor on the business side of things. If the speed test low contact our support again and advise them, they will either contact our network analysts so that tests can be run remotely, or they will send a tech out to verify that there is a speed issue and a ticket can be opened.
Currently Monroe is not a part of the utilization issues affecting other towns in GA. The last I heard it was not over-utilized, or damaged in any way. You may want to consider checking to make sure you neighbors firewall is deactivated, and that nothing is updating in the background.

This is just pathetic that a company who has a virtual hurricane of complaints all around the country of horrible internet speeds would resort to trying to defame one of the more respected Speed and Ping Testing websites on the net, and to what avail? To Make the Issues seem insubstantial?. Here is a Snippet from Speedtest.net's website...........

At Speedtest.net, our goal is to have quality testing servers in every major city around the globe. Join us today and become part of the world's most popular and comprehensive broadband speed test!

Setup is easy and the requirements are a modern web server and an Internet backbone connection with at least 100 Mb/s available. Please install Speedtest.net Mini on your server before filling out this form. Note that we need two host names for the server.

Testers usually select the server closest to them so you will automatically reach the people in your area. This is a great opportunity for many organizations, and we are offering sponsorships in most cities world-wide. *

Each testing host sponsor is provided with a login to our reporting system to view all results run against their server in real-time. We also setup custom DNS entries such as london.speedtest.net which always makes that server be the recommended one.

Notice in order to host this service you have to have at least a 100mb/sec connection and a modern web server...to hear you explain it you would think it would be a 1.5mb/second "Windstream" connection from BFE. Also this software that the people at Speedtest.net and Speakeasy.net run are most likely the same software as they both have the Ookla icon at the bottoms on the screen and if you click it you go to »www.ookla.com/
So for all practical purposes it is the same test. Also both your online tech support and techs who come to a persons home have in the past suggested someone to use speedtest.net to test the connection as a on hands diagnostic or during diagnostics on the phone.

Is the fcc's website, it lets you enter your addres/city/state so they can see where the slow speeds are coming from. I have gave them about 20 tests peak and non peak times.

I have not tried this one out, but for someone who has the right requirements it looks like it would be nice for someone else to see how crappy Windstreams connections are.

So I would like Aaron to answer what's going on in my area (Canton, GA) now. Every night for the past week I lose connect around 9p for a few hours. I know my gear and everything checks out so what's going on? Is it just a capacity issue since all the kids are on holiday break and hammering your system? What is WS doing to resolve the capacity issue in my area?

Very frustrated in Canton...

You should start seeing a improvement 1st quarter of 2013.

Most people who draw from equipment that runs through Commerce should start to see improvement around the halfway point of the first quarter of 2013. Regarding Canton GA I do not know the specific issues, send me your DSL number and I can pull up the equipment you are on and see whats going on. The reason I typically do not address the thread as a whole is that GA is a large state, with many different pieces of equipment. It would be incorrect for me to use a blanket statement regarding everyone's issues in GA.
