Customer interaction

I'm pretty disappointed with how Cablevision interacts with their customers, considering that some privileged customers get favorable pricing breaks, while the rest of us take it up the butt.

Perhaps their "commitment to transparency" (ha, ha) will cause them to reveal that my neighbors are paying less than I do for more and better services.

...and it's all about where you live. If you have FiOS as an option, then Cablevision will be much more willing to wheel and deal with you. Sounds like basic good business and economics to me.

Sure, if you want to piss off your other customers. How does that fit in with Cablevision's "commitment to honesty, transparency, the quality of the services we provide and - importantly - how we interact with our customers"?

The fact that, if they don't offer really attractive rates in FiOS areas, there won't be many CV customers in those areas, while the same isn't true in areas where Verizon only has DSL.

At least you aren't in an area where you've got Comcast outside of FiOS territory. Right now Comcast's mid-tier speeds are double the speed for the same amount of money in FiOS areas vs. not. You wanna talk about customer satisfaction etc., there's your case in point. Then again, where Comcast competes against CenturyLink...well...they don't have much competition.

Here's a guy who is charged $25/month for Family Cable + iO, when I was charged $45/month. WTF does he pay less than I did?

Really? Most supermarkets prices change depending on where you live. Nassau county stop and shops have different sales vs suffolk. even stop and shops on different blocks can have different sales.

try switching to another provider and see if they charge you the same thing they charge everyone...good luck

One bill does not establish a privileged class of customers.

He probably just bought at a different time, when a different promotion was available, in a different zip code, and he probably negotiated a better deal, i.e. with retentions.

Like it or not (I certainly don't), broadband and pay-tv pricing requires the customer to act in his own best interest, and be savvy consumer. People who count their pennies take the time to inquire regularly, as to "what's available", and renegotiate their rate-plan whenever it is most favorable. For others who may not pay as close attention, they may end up paying the rack rate (list price) when their initial promotion expires 3/6/12 months later. Mark your calendar!

But its not a conspiracy, there aren't an elite group of customers.

Almost, but not quite.

Checkout coupons are tailored to the shopper, based on past purchasing history on the loyalty card.

But the pricing range is certainly much narrower than cable companies offer.

That's probably a reflection on your approach, not CV.

Lose the entitlement mentality, and negotiate without emotion - treat it like a poker game. You should join the ranks of the "elite" customers soon enough.
