[Parts Check] EVGA GTX 670 for $369 at NCIX Good Deal?

For $369 this weekend only at the NCIX in Mississauga, should I jump on this?

I think I read that the 670 is identical to the 570.

the 670 seems to be a bit of a better performer with more power savings:

I have no experience with either, but the 570 is about $100 cheaper. I'd like to get the most up-to-date card if there are no serious performance defects with it.

I think a GTX 570 is about the same price as a GTX 660 Ti (~$300 USD) but the reviews I’ve seen have the GTX 660 Ti performing a better.

I've been looking at the 660ti for a while... I was seriously considering it until this came up.

Yeah I could see that,….

The GTX 670 is typically a full ~$100 or so more then the GTX 660. So seeing a GTX 670 Tiat ~$369 is roughly a ~$40 savings. That’s about a 10% off and it is significant.

I’m a bit of a cheapskate though since I cut back on PC gaming and a willingness to pay for higher-end cards,….which makes the cheaper GTX 660 Ti more palatable IMO. In fact I might be more interested in the upcoming GTX 660 (non-Ti version) at ~$250.

Also HD 7870 prices seem to be dropping some,….

I'd love to take an ATI card for a test drive but their Linux drivers are lacking. Hopefully they'll get on this soon, maybe when steam launches their Linux client.

Cool, I read Anandtech but wasn't aware they had a comparison chart.

Maybe it's just the mobile versions are the same? I have a 570M.

That's what I figured, I also have gift MC for $50 kicking around, which is going to make it even cheaper.

Just think, you have to spend $1000 (GTX 690) to get a significantly better GPU than you have now.

Just spend $300 and pick up a second GTX 580.

I wish I had a 580, I have a 560ti, which is what makes the 670 look pretty appealing.

Looks like you missed the boat for a $309.99 GTX670 here:

You can call and see if they are willing to ship you one from their Edmonton location.

OR

You can attempt to get NCIX to price beat. Good luck. I think from a performance standpoint, the 670 will give you around a 150-200% performance increase over the 560ti.

The closest one to me is Winnipeg, I might give them a call and find out if they ship.

That's a really good price.

Thanks for the recommend, but the "immediate gratification" got the best of me and I ended up going to NCIX.

Available until tomorrow (Monday). They ship anywhere in Canada with a Canadian credit card.

When I checked this morning the online store was out... hence why I was recommended to call one of the stores upthread.

Mobile versions are always crap compared to the real ones.

Indeed I have a mobile GPU in my laptop, and they're underwhelming. They "work" for gaming but nothing fancy that's for sure.

The 560ti is still popular enough that you can put it up on Ebay and get a decent price for it. Take that off your sale price and you got yourself a hell of a card at an awesome price.

Ya there was a story on toms that mentioned that although the mobile might be named 570 or 670m its more like a 550/650 after all they have some tight power limits on laptop GPUs.

I think Mrs. Quintron has her eye on my 560ti,

But I will selling it if she's not interested.

There is a reason for this, even these tightly controlled GPUs burn through batteries like crazy. I can only get about ~3 hours of battery life on a six cell battery.

Ya, I just wish that they'd not use the same naming as their desktop chips, of name it more accurately for how it performs.

Agreed, even if they just named it something entirely different it would be better.

It seems a little disingenuous to name the Optimus/Discrete chips based on the performance cards.

Yep.

I think once I had to explain that the mobile chip wasn't the same to someone, it was more painful to get the message across then you'd think.

I'm sure it was, even folks who know enough about this sometimes have unrealistic expectations of this stuff.
