What bugs me is that laptop webcams don't have LED lights to tell you the cam is taking pictures. Why not? Surely a low power LED could be added for cheap. And/or build a sliding shutter for them, much like the sliding USB connector on thumb drives.

That's up to the manufacturer, my previous and current HP laptop has a LED light for when the camera is active.

My Dell Studio 1745 has a led that lights when the Cam is on.
