[Rant] NFL on Fox and why I will NEVER watch another game

So I was watching the Seahawks @ Cardinals game this afternoon. Seahawks lost, probably shouldn't be all that surprised. What really ticked me off though was that the announcers were so soft I had to turn my TV up to nearly full volume just to hear them on most plays. Excuse me, I thought I was watching an American Football game, not a golf match. Well, they have lost one viewer, permanently.

i watched the same game here in Calgary. Volume was not an issue for me at all. In fact, I thought Heath Evans was excellent.

The volume issue you described may very well because of your service provider. I had no issues watching it on Fox 13.

KCPQ (Q13) by chance?

Yes. That's the Fox station broadcast here in Calgary.

KCPQ broadcasts from Seattle, WA. That is the same station I was watching. I know it's common for the Seattle stations to get as far as Victoria, BC and Vancouver, BC but I didn't know they went into Alberta. Cable or Satellite? Also, which provider?

I assume you mean relative to the other sounds? Did you have your middle channel too low? Were you using shitty speakers? I watched the game today and it sounded fine.

Using the built in speakers on a JVC SD set. I do not have any sort of external speakers attached to this TV. This was not even in relation to other sounds (the refs and crowd noise also sounded too soft). The game prior to Seahawks @ Cardinals sounded fine. All other channels (including KOMO, KING, KCTS, KBTC, and KIRO) sounded fine.

Then it's your local affiliate you should be blaming.

I have TELUS Optik TV. It was the same feed you were watching. Which means the only difference as far as I can tell is your service provider.

I have a similar issue with OTA WMAZ in Macon GA. Low sound, picture fine, all other channels work fine for both picture and sound. The station engineer and manager will be sent an e-mail about it. I would advise you to do the same. Sometimes the sound equipment is set wrong and they do not notice because they can hear it fine at the station. A lot of stations are trying updated sound equipment to meet the new regulations meant for advertising commercials to not blast you with massive increased sound levels compared to the content or show you are watching. The controls and settings are very complicated to master, so they get it wrong sometimes.

I thought every major cable carrier and every satellite provider had Red Zone? It costs extra, but it's only five dollars a month extra.

Son of Jack Buck, hall of fame baseball announcer. Joe is the lead sports announcer on Fox, for both baseball and football. Jack made understatement an art form, but Joe just sounds bored most of the time.

The sound was ok here. It was a little lower but not by much. the volume on the other station varies also.

As bad as Joe is, he's nowhere as bad as Phil Simms.

Mike Martz did the Panther-Bucs game this weekend. I found it interesting to hear him explaining what he saw. Seems like when they bring in a new guy he's always pretty good for a season or two before the producers ruin him and make him just another announcer.

I watched most of the second half of the Seahawks/Cardinals game and the audio sounded fine to me on NFL Sunday Ticket with my DirecTV DVR fed through my A/V Receiver and 7.1 system. The League is LUCKY, Seattle didn’t win. They would have never heard the end of it if the Seahawks won with the replacement officials giving them the extra time out.

I absolutely love the new Fox set! Being more of an AVC guy I always watched the CBS Pregame show, but I think Fox is where my eyes will be from now on every Sunday at noon.

I'll admit the officials blew it on that one. One of the unfortunate realities in sports is that the officials sometimes make an incorrect ruling. However, NFL Sunday Ticket and Fox are two separate channels

The feed of the game is still from Fox. Any technological glitch that originates at Fox or within the broadcast itself would be passed on to all viewers regardless of how they’re watching the game.

I was able to hear the game fine here in Everett, WA on Comcast HD even over my two year old running back and forth "re-enacting" the plays.

Considering the original rant, since other were able to hear it just fine, it was most likely some sort of deviation adjustment turned too low at the Headend of your service provider.
Those were adjustments we had to make all the time when I was in the industry way back in the day, where certain channels audio was much louder or softer than others.

unlikely, considering that there were commercials during the game that were louder than the game itself.

Well, that's pretty much the norm. Commercials are ALWAYS louder...that's just the network, and the way they intend it. (And it always pisses me off).
Regardless of how the deviation was set on the processors, the commercials will usually blast you out of the room...That's one reason the mute button is my very favorite button on my remote.

(Edit) Sorry about all the edits.
At any rate, you saying: "Well, they have lost one viewer, permanently", is pretty silly. It may only happen once in a while, and as I said, it's probably an adjustment that will be corrected in the future. I seriously doubt (at least for me, a complete football lunatic), that it's a good enough reason to never watch a football game on Fox again.
Heck, turn the sound off completely...you don't need the lame announcers anyway. But for God sake, don't miss the football game.
