Yes, a lot more.

If you have an old Smartphone plan with Verizon you currently pay $30 a month for unlimited data. The new plans charge $50 a month for 1GB of data and $15 per GB overage.

I pay around $78 a month including taxes for my unlimited plan(450 voice minutes and unlimited text and data) with my Verizon 4G LTE phone(ReZound). My billing month is only half over and I've already used 8GB. So if I end up using 16GB this month what would that cost me with a shared data plan? I seriously doubt it would only be $10 more that the $78 I currently pay.

Not everyone has unlimited data. I don't. Quit assuming everyone on a old Verizon plan has unlimited data. Most people I know have the 2 GB plan for $30. I know exactly 2 people that have unlimited data with Verizon. Everyone else pays $30 for 2 GB. So yes $10 difference.

Once again not everyone has unlimited data with Verizon. Verizon stopped offering unlimited data in early July 2011 and not everyone before then had it either. I didn't and I got a smartphone in Nov 2010. I wasn't paying $30 for a data plan even if it was unlimited so I hopped on a deal where I got 150 MB for $15 a month.

I know a bunch of people with unlimited data with Verizon. Even my 75+ year old parents each have unlimited data on their phones.(although they don't really use alot of data). But my brother who also has unlimited data with Verizon uses 10GB to 20GB each month

But that just makes it worse. If you're paying $30 a month for 2GB, the cheapest Verizon Share Everything option is now $50 for 1GB, before overages. You pay $20 more and lose half your data.

If you want 2GB with Share Everything, you pay $60 a month for that. You pay $30 more for the same exact data you had before.

good for you but that's not the norm. I can 100% guarantee you that the number of Verizon customers that have unlimited data is very small.

let's have fun with math.

Old pricing 450 minute, unlimited texting, $30 data plan for 2 GB. TOTAL $90

Share Everything 2 GB plan $100

price difference $10 . TA DA!

Um the "data" portion also includes unlimited texting which is $20 under old pricing. funny how you don't take that into account.

Old pricing $2 GB data $30 unlimited texting $20 TOTAL $50. Share Everything unlimited texting and 2 GB data =$60.

That is still $20 more than I pay for unlimited for the 2GB price you quote. After taxes it would be closer to $100 which brings it inline to $20 more than the $78 I pay after taxes.

And it might not be the norm, but the bulk of people I personally know with Verizon phones have unlimited data. And unfortunately with the new pricing I will be forced to keep the plan I have as long as possible. And I'll probably be forced to leave Verizon at some point if I get forced to their shared plans. What would I have to end up paying, double for my usage with the new shared plans? That is a crazy amount to pay for just one phone.

*snort* I should say not!

10GB of data is $100/mo. Another 6GB/mo. would be an additional $30/mo. if you paid for it in advance. It's $15/GB for overages. *ouch*! So $40 + $130 = $170/mo. + taxes & surcharges.

That's a lot of data, btw. A lot...

if you feel like you will go over you can just add the extra data an back date it to the start of the billing period.

Also no taxes and surcharges on data.

Nope I'm not. I'm comparing apples to apples. That's all. You can throw in unlimited but the fact is the unlimited plan was NOT available right before Verizon switched to Share Everything. It in fact had been discontinued a year before. The fact is someone signing up with Verizon on June 27th and getting old pricing and someone signing up on June 28th and getting new Share Everything pricing the difference is $10.

Texting is worthless, and that is why I do not factor it in. If you have any data plan you should have carrier-based texting blocked and be using any number of zero cost alternatives.

Anyone who is a regular on THIS website should NOT be paying for texting.

$10 is a lot more. $10 x 12 = $120 dollars

I think 120 dollars would be quite helpful for many things such as the grocery bill, paying utilities, getting head on a house payment, or even just banking the money.

so yes $10 is significant...I would prefer to save that money or use it towards other things then give it to a cell phone carrier.

That's just slightly disingenuous. Not long ago a minimal plan was:

450 minutes + 250 text messages + unlimited data was $45 + $5 + $30 = $80.

Now a minimal plan is $100.

Price difference: An additional 25%. TAH DAH!

Um you HAVE to factor it otherwise you just fudging the numbers to prove you point. Which is basically like lying.
