[Credit Card Fraud] Nigerian DHL/Forwarding Scam This is a true story that occured months ago.
My friend works at a DHL agent and one day he gets a call from a potential customer regarding recieving a package and then shipping it off somewhere. Being a DHL agent it wasn't uncommon for him to recieve this sort of request; for e.g. a product's warranty is valid only in the country of purchase and packages get moved through the DHL agents to get around this.
My friend said the customer was very vague about the details and then a brand new iPad from an internet merchant arrived, follwed by instructions to ship it to Nigeria with a low declared value. If that didn't raise any red flags, the fake ID card (think: passport edited in paintbrush) and stolen (and obviously edited) credit card certainly set them off. The merchant was contacted, iPad returned and credit card reported stolen. However, the DHL agent makes commissions on the shipments and has a good understanding of how the billing system works -- he's a greedy bastard. A box of garbage and a few extra digits on the customs declaration later, comedy ensues.
DHL agents: Beware of Nigerian scams.
Nigerians: Don't mess with bored DHL agents.
