Moving FIOS BBUSo I was thinking of relocating the FIOS BUU and router upstairs to my home office. Just curious what the cost would be in having Verizon do it? Or in terms of do it yourself what kind of cable would I need to buy? The existing length on the cable may not be long enough to reach (the power cable from the outside going to the BBU).
If you're wondering why I want to move it, I'd like to hook it up to a UPS upstairs instead of buying another for the basement. |

The cable I'm talking about the lighter colored one. For a second I thought it was ethernet cable they used but I guess it's not. » lh4.ggpht.com/-abvp36Z3O ··· gmax=800 |

You want to move JUST the BBU (Battery Back Up) and Router? About about the ONT?
The BBU has to be near the ONT, it does not make sen to put the BBU upstairs and the ONT by itself in the basement. The BBU is for the ONT so you get phone service in case of power outtage.
You should leave your BBU there.
The Router you can move anywhere as long as there's a COAX connection and you can plug it into any UPS you have. |

The ONT is on the outside of the house, not in the basement. The BBU would probably still be about the same distance away from the ONT, just on the main floor instead of the basement. However I'm still thinking the existing cable length might not be enough given how I'm thinking of routing the cable around the walls in the new location.
Can I buy the cabling Verizon uses online? |

Can I buy the cabling Verizon uses online? Perhaps, but it really is an unusual cable. Why do you want and bother moving it? Moving the router makes lots of sense for many reasons. The BBU powers and its connections POWER the ONT, both when you have power and not. Ideally you want Verizon to play with it, since technically the connections in the ONT are Suppose to not be in user serviceable portions of the ONT. |

You have to have tech come out to move the bbu. Please do not attempt to move it yourself. |

I'd like to move it into my home office on the main floor so I can connect them to the same UPS. |

Seems buying a separate UPS for the ONT would be a much easier solution. I have mine on its own UPS, while my computer and router on another UPS on the other side of my living room. Your choice, but definitely contact VZ to have a tech redo the wiring for the ONT, if you choose to move the ONT PSU. Good luck! |

How large is your UPS?
You do realize you'll need a significant size UPS if you're going to power the computer, router and BBU from the same unit? |

An APC BR1500G w/ BR24BPG. The battery backup outlet is only plugged into a laptop so it's not powering much.
It's also just personal preference. I'd rather have it all upstairs in one place. I just need some of this special cable to relocate the BBU. |

". I just need some of this special cable to relocate the BBU." Once again, Call vz and have a tech come out and move it for you. IT is very easy to break the connectors (or other parts). The BBU and ONT is not made for the customer to mess with it. |
