I ran pings to 64.74.97.87 from all of the subnets in Batesville but they all showed around 40ms latency.

Are you still seeing this problem? If so, please PM me your cable modem's MAC address and your public IP (»whatismyip.com) and I will investigate further.

We expect ~50ms at the point where Batesville traffic leaves our network. Looking at your trace, hop 5 and 6 show ~50ms. Hop 7 shows and increase of 30+ms and hop 8 is the big one showing over 140ms latency. However the actual destination is down to 120ms which is the important one.

I have looked through the path of the trace you sent me and have not found any circuits that are saturated during the times you reported.

Based on that trace, the increase in latency shows to be off-net to the Suddenlink network. There is a chance that the return path, which is from 64.74.97.87 back to Suddenlink, has a problem but since Internap does not have a public route server or looking glass I am unable to see that path.

Gsn71, would you contact the server host and try to have them perform a trace back to you when the problem is happening? This may shed more light on where the problem may be.

it's multiple hosts and multiple locations. I'm just tracert'ing that one IP because its a server i own in chicago.

»i.imgur.com/4WRXn.jpg

here's a huge list from a company esea.net that hosts from multiple locations and datacenters. (and not for the game that i play)

i have yet to find ANY servers that i ping well to. this wouldn't matter if i was just using my computer for downloading. but i play games in tournaments for money and am currently qualifying to go to france. anything over 70ms is unplayable at a competitive level.

the routing of suddenlink has been awful and there have been many times you were able to fix it to where i pinged 20s to dallas & 40s to illinois which was amazing but if this continues i'll have to switch back to at&t which i really dont want to do but at least my pings will be down to 20-30s -.-

I understand that it's multiple locations. However, I still need more information. You said it based on time of day so we need to focus on one example that is easily reproducible so we can isolate where the problem is. I do not see a single circuit in distress on the path from you to your server. Traces only show one path but there are two. Forward and return. Routing is rarely synchronous on the internet or any meshed layer 3 network.

Since you own the server, please run the trace from the server back to your home network while you're having the problem and post the results. If you would post both traces (to the server and from the server) that would be great!
