I have no idea what happened "worldwide", nor do I have any idea why Mr. Bell would imagine he does.

But you do understand how a legal Las Vegas sports book works, don't you? They make adjustments in the line as necessary to ensure there's an equal amount of money bet on both sides. They then pay off the winners bets with the losers bets, while also giving the winners their 10% commission or 'vigorish' back. The losers 10% commission is retained by the sports book, giving the sports book a 5% profit on the total amount wagered between both sides. They don't "gamble", they merely provide a booking service.

How Mr. Bell might determine that illegal bookmakers "worldwide" (read: not legal bookmakers within Las Vegas) won or lost any specific amount of money, I would have no earthly idea. Nor does the story say how Mr. Bell managed to come up with that figure.

Your interpretation that 'mob guys' in legal Las Vegas sports book establishments lost 300 million on the game is incorrect.

I read elsewhere that there may have been up to $1,000,000,000 that changed hands.

All I know for a fact is that the bookies and sportsbooks were very happy with the outcome as were Seattle fans and Seattle bettors.

Hope that clears it up for you.

The last time I gambled I lost $100 when I bet Ronald Reagan would lose to Jimmy Carter. Haven't placed a bet since and never will.

There were 300 million dollars worth of bets on the game placed in Vegas sports books. Had that last play been ruled an interception, it was Green Bay bettors who'd have been paid off. Since it wasn't, it was Seattle bettors who were paid off.

The story says nothing different from that.

The NFL is playing a little CYA. I think they are using escape clause number 5, "shouldn't be overturned because an official who was on top of the play made a call and the call either cannot be overturned and/or is not reviewable".
As to the correctness of the call, I have watched the replay dozens of times from several tv angles while in slow motion on the DVR. I can't see any time where the offensive player has possession of the football - and that cannot be a touchdown. (I am however sorry that this high school ref didn't know that if the defense intercepts, the offensive player can't put his right hand on the football and touch the ball with his left index finger and then it's dual possession scenario).
I am not a Packers fan, nor a Saints fan (my team is the Browns -no I don't want your pity :D). But I do love the game and that crap, especially Monday night, was abhorrent!

Officiating is integral to the integrity of the game itself.
To my mind, the league should have concerns about gamblers getting to replacements when horrible calls and game outcomes can just be dismissed as "inexperience".

You bring in Foles when you are 4-7 not when you are 2-1. You guys are tied with most elite teams right now, though ugly, it is still a winning record.

Reid needs to change the calling though, again no matter who your QB is, you cant slam him 40 times a game.

He can't identify the blitz especially corner blitzes. The O-line isn't fantastic, I agree. But there were plays he could have had but didn't. ALso last year the O-line was one of the best in the league, VIck had the SAME problems he is having now. Really since the Vikings game in 2010..

Thats the problem with you Philly fans, you dont like one thing and you want it gone.

Now I will agree with the fact that you may need you guys a new coach, but when the OC dials up pass play after pass play without much of an offensive line you are going to get picked.

I would not place too much blame on Vick, he is staying in the pocket much more and he is running the plays he is told to run.

Defenses just want to smash him up until he cant play, and Reid does not run the ball to make them think twice.

All DC are just dialing up blitzes and smashing the shit out of Vick.

Now I am not a fan of his for different reasons, but when your guy gets smashed 40+ times, you cant expect him to do much. You guys are still 2-1.

Reid need to protect the quarterback. Running backs dont get smashed nearly as often as Vick did last week, it was a brutal beating, I amost felt bad for him.

You guys need to protect your QB. Take Tom Brady and hit him that hard 40 times and see how well he throws...

The replay officials are not replacements, they are the same replay officials as last year. Apparently they operate under a different contract from the officials on the field.

That TD call was horrible. How does another player have the ball against himself and it is counted as a reception for the other team? Not to mention the offensive pass interference that Tate(?) did to grab that ball. Not to mention the interference call that (Tate?) did a little bit before.

That was an absolutely awful hit on him. The defender launched at him helmet first with his hands at his sides. Heyward-Bey was unconscious before he hit the ground. I was worried for awhile that I'd just seen a death on a football field. Glad to hear he's recovering.
