They make adjustments in the line as necessary to ensure there's an equal amount of money bet on both sides. They then pay off the winners bets with the losers bets, while also giving the winners their 10% commission or 'vigorish' back. The losers 10% commission is retained by the sports book, giving the sports book a 5% profit on the total amount wagered between both sides. They don't "gamble", they merely provide a booking service.

How Mr. Bell might determine that illegal bookmakers "worldwide" (read: not legal bookmakers within Las Vegas) won or lost any specific amount of money, I would have no earthly idea. Nor does the story say how Mr. Bell managed to come up with that figure.

Your interpretation that 'mob guys' in legal Las Vegas sports book establishments lost 300 million on the game is incorrect.

I think they are using escape clause number 5, "shouldn't be overturned because an official who was on top of the play made a call and the call either cannot be overturned and/or is not reviewable".
As to the correctness of the call, I have watched the replay dozens of times from several tv angles while in slow motion on the DVR. I can't see any time where the offensive player has possession of the football - and that cannot be a touchdown. (I am however sorry that this high school ref didn't know that if the defense intercepts, the offensive player can't put his right hand on the football and touch the ball with his left index finger and then it's dual possession scenario).
I am not a Packers fan, nor a Saints fan (my team is the Browns -no I don't want your pity :D).
Eagles LoveR posted : The skill is there he has everything you can ask for in a Qb, not denying that! But the man is not mentally capable of being an elite QB or even a good one. Outside of 2010 his career passing the ball has been AVERAGE at best. He's 32 due 16 million dollars next tear. He had 9 turn overs in 3 games. How much better can a 32 year old get? Sure he'll have amazing plays and amazing games. But he is what he is. an Average passing QB with now above average running skills and he's only getting older. Start new with a younger QB. See what the rookie has - in the preseason he showed a lot of potential see if it translates in the NFL regular season. If not then you get atop 5 pick and draft your franchise QB starting in 2013 with a new HC
--
"I done wrassled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale, only Last week I murdered a rock, Injured a stone, hospitalized a brick, I'm so mean I make medicine sick!!"-Ali

Eagles LoveR posted : Be 4-7! Thats fine! 4-8 last year with Vick isn't much better! I would be content with watching NEW! I wouldn't mind going through growing pains and see the regime of coaches go. It's the same story year in and year out game in and game out with this Reid regime since Day 1. 8-8 or under he will be fired! FINALLY! I'll take less than average years, I want something NEW! ANYTHING! I'm tired of the 60-40 run ratio when your QB isn't elite and you have a top 3 RB in the league. DISGUSTING! 25 called passes in the first half 5 called runs! IT'S PATHETIC! I'M OVER IT! THIS WON'T WIN A SB!

Bring the Rookie in see what he has. If he isn't progressing you'll have a top 5 pick and get a good QB with a new coach start anew! And who knows if Foles can't get it done. We are 2-1 but that has more to do with the defense than Vicks offense. 9 turnovers in 3 games alone for Vick. pathetic.
--
"I done wrassled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale, only Last week I murdered a rock, Injured a stone, hospitalized a brick, I'm so mean I make medicine sick!!"-Ali

Eagles LoveR posted : I never wanted Donovan McNabb to leave. He was light years ahead of what Vick is. The man seriously has no clue on how to read and react to defenses. Not to mention that he holds onto the ball and STARES down WRs like nothing! The play calling is terrible no denying that it always has been which is why I want Reid gone.

But back to Vick he looks like a sitting duck. He isn't as fast as he use to be not nearly as fast, and the man LOVES to stare down his WRs not going through progressions. He can't identify the blitz especially corner blitzes. The O-line isn't fantastic, I agree. But there were plays he could have had but didn't. ALso last year the O-line was one of the best in the league, VIck had the SAME problems he is having now. The play continued though, and the kicker missed. Of course, he got a second try, which he made after having had that practice kick.

Did I mention the Skins lost that game by three points?

Now, 'everything changes everything', so there's no way to say everything else would have played out as it did had Shanahan not called the timeout, and so therefore the game would have otherwise gone into overtime.
On the other hand, the second try gave the Rams three points they wouldn't have had at that stage of the game had there not been a re-try, and the final margin of defeat for the Skins was in fact three points.

Draw your own conclusions.
