 | [Serious] Life-support ruling upheld in case of starved girl This is disgusting. The parents' abuse put the kid on life support in the first place, and now they fight in court to keep the kid on life support to duck a murder charge. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. People should have to get a license to have kids.

quote: The Alberta Court of Appeal upheld a ruling Wednesday to remove a child from life-support over the objections of her parents who are accused of beating and starving her.
The three judges also rejected a request to stay their decision to give the parents time to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada.
The child could be taken off life support in the next couple of days, enough time for parents to visit her. Each parent will get a chance to visit the girl at her hospital bed for 20 minutes within the next 24 hours.
The visits must be done separately and under police guard.
...snip...
Last week, a Court of Queen's Bench judge ruled the parents' desire to keep M alive out of love or religious beliefs is not necessarily in the child's best interest.
The judge also noted that if the child is removed from life support and dies, the couple could be charged with her death.
Justice June Ross sided with doctors, who told the court that the girl's brain damage is so severe that she will never regain consciousness.

Sad and outrageous.
Wow, for the parents to claim that this would be against their religious beliefs!
What a pair of fuckers. |

 | reply to lugnut What a sad story. Religious beliefs my ass, no religion encourages parents to kill an innocent little 2 year old girl. Sickening. |

Seriously, though...
As the father of a 2 1/2 year old little girl - there is nothing more special or precious; and I'll kill every last one of you, before I willingly let something happen to her.
That these parents are responsible for the condition she's in now - well, jail's too good for them. If they are as religious as the undertones in the article suggest, then hopefully an old-testament fire and brimstone Hell awaits them.
If the brain has died, and there's no hope for meaningful recovery, then letting nature takes it's course is the most merciful option, IMO... |

What a pair of fuckers. There's a strategic legal reason for this. If the child dies, the parents can then be charged with murder. Keeping the child alive for as long as possible denies the Crown the ability to lay those charges.
Pair of fuckers indeed. -- Watch my future television channel's public test broadcast! »thecanadianpublic.com/live |

» news.nationalpost.com/2012/09/20···removed/Rest in peace, dear child. It makes me sad, but I still she gets peace. It would have been much better if she had a good life.
This and the foster children story is making me sad. I want to go hug my girls now. -- The irony of common sense, it is not that common. I cannot deny anything I did not say. A kitten dies every time someone uses "then" and "than" incorrectly. I mock people who give their children odd spelling of names. |
