East Texas - slow speeds, high latency

Currently have 15/1 server with an Arris TM602G.
For the past couple weeks we've seen slow download speeds and higher than usual latency. Until now I attributed it, at least in part, to a router that was going out. Today I hooked up the new router and noticed no improvement.

The results of a couple tests I ran tonight:

When I first moved here, I would get sub 50ms pings to Dallas, and it seems service has been degrading for the past year or so. I would like to upgrade to the 30Mbps tier, but I would like to feel more confident that these issues would not affect the higher tier as well.

Hello TxDev. Is this problem happening all day or just during certain times throughout the day, such as during peak-time?

To help facilitate troubleshooting, please download and install PingPlotter Pro (free trial). Then perform a Pingplotter trace, 1 second interval, to a server that you're experiencing high latency to and post the image (file > save image) in this thread.

Also, please PM me your cable modem's MAC address and your public IP found here: »whatismyip.com .

At 6:20pm local, latency is significantly improved. In the past I've noticed the problem late at night, between 10pm and 3am typically.

PingPlotter right now shows a pretty smooth graph, with latency primarily increasing with the number of hops.

11:30pm local and download from Dallas is significantly less than from Houston.

Yeah, I don't know a lot about all the technical nuances, but it seems like for the last year or so, there is a lag before a web page starts loading. Sometimes it will take 5 or 10seconds before a page even starts to load. What is weird is that I can log into those same web sites, on my same laptop computer, from a different location like perhaps a hotel wireless network, and the page will start to load instantly.

Now, whenever I run speed tests, I get good results. I am on the 15mbps service(with the modem that also gets you the telephone service). Lately, I have been getting 16 to 19mbps speed test results, except that everything slows down every evening from about 6pm to midnight. Actually, the evening slowdown has been there for years now. In the evenings, I may get 9mbps or so.

I have called in multiple times over the years about this, and techs have come out to the house, but they never find anything wrong locally here with my signal levels. Plus, I am told that there are not actually that many houses on the same node, so there is no excuse for this lag and evening slowdowns.

Firstly, my apologies for not responding sooner. A perfect storm of work, classes, and other responsibilities meant I've been online at home a grand total of maybe an hour over the last two weeks. Secondly, my connection is running as smooth as it ever has! Thank you SDL L3Tech

I'm getting aggravated again, slow as heck tonight, considering I pay for the 15 meg service.
