Excellent VLAN documentation resource

I saw mozerd's helpful tip on VLANS of Aug 20th, and thought I would share a great find as well.

There's a white paper by Allied Telesis that is the only thing I've found that clearly explains what is going on with VLANs, what the tagging/untagging operations do, port based vs tagged, and how the packets are routed by both switches and routers.

After 15 minutes reading this document I was able to understand prior documentation, some test results, etc. that had all eluded me before. It's clear, grammatically correct and hardware neutral. Everything else I'd found was so ambiguous and sloppy it was almost useless... I'd try Allied Telesis products just on the strength of their documentation.... there's a lot of great stuff in their "Support-Documentation" section.

Here's the doc, "Overview of VLANs", at »www.alliedtelesis.com/me ··· lans.pdf.

Enjoy
